Travel day.
I returned home today. It was a rough trip. I like to think of myself as a thinker and planner. I like to weigh possibilities and have contingincy plans. Initially I felt pretty good. I brought my folks a generator, and I brought mine as well incase of any issues. I bought a brand new chainsaw and also packed my sawzall. I bought a shower in a bag kit and a toilet in a bucket kit for obvious reasons, but did not need either. I had plenty of extension cords, 4 gas cans, flashlights, tools, you get the idea.
So my failure was with using the chainsaw. I damaged the chain. The tension bolts came loose, and I temporaraly lost one. The chain jumped out of its track and the motor gear chewed up the chain enough that is would not fit back in. From there I realized I did not have my metal file or other means to repair the chain she the chainsaw was useless after 10 cuts. That ended my tree cutting abilities. I used my sawzall as best I could but it is no replacement for a chainsaw when there are 4 or 5 trees to cut up. I was defeated.
On the plus side I was able to get my folks power, provide a cooking source, ability to make coffee in the AM, watch tv and have some heat. I can’t say the setup was a comfortable living arraingement, but it sure beat being in the dark, no heat listoning to a battery powered radio. Hopefully the power will be back on
