AM:
We went on a hike!

It was a fairly good day today. Temps were in the 40’s and went up to the high 50’s. We went hiking in DC on some trails we used to do. I was walking and slid in the mud a little bit and tweeked my knee. It feels like I went jogging on it. I should say, it hurts like I went jogging on it. Not a great thing to happen. Anyway the weekend is here and we are going to enjoy it as much as possible.

Y3W47 Day 5

AM:
30 min elliptical machine
2 sets of lat pull downs

My back was sore from the ride home and helping push the car up hill. I was not feeling in the zone today so I took it easier in the gym. The day was uneventful. Not many people at work, and nothing crazy going on. The high light of the day was grocery shopping with my wife!

Tomorrow we have plans to hike in DC on some of the little known trails that are well traveled. If you don’t pay attention when traveling though the outskirts of the city you would totally miss the little signs with the trail markings and distances on them. But we know, we do!

Y3W47 Day 4

AM:

The drive home. We left the house around 8:30 am and cruised into PA and stopped at the rest stop right over the border. The attendant asked where we were headed and she told us we were in for a rough ride. Snow was coming down heavy and fast and the highway was closed due to an accident 45 minutes up the way. We had to go that way though so we drove on. We exited about 10 miles from the closure and took back roads as a work around. The storm was dropping snow on us and the roads were being plowed and salted, but the temperature was 27 degrees so what was melting was freezing. We missed a turn we needed to make so I needed to make a U-turn. I skidded slowing down which was a treat. Once we were back on track we hit standstill traffic again. So we took a back country road that had not been plowed yet and carefully drove on the snowy/icy hill down to the bottom worrying the whole way. We made it. Eventually we made it back to the main secondary road and cruised along at up to 20 miles an hour in places. Eventually we made it past the storm area and was able to go 55 to 65 miles an hour depending on the actual speed limit. We made it home a couple hours later than we hoped but we made it.

About a mile away we saw a broken down car with a girl pushing it up hill. I pulled over on a side street and took over pushing it. I made it up hill to a side street and needed to girls help making it the last bit around the corner. I got a workout in after all. I also ended up with a sore back and needed 3 Advil once I was inside.

As we pulled up to our house the neighbor’s cat was there to greet us. Tiger Stripe was so loving and wanted to rub all over us. we each petted him for a while. I even fed him some since the owners are out of town. They have pet sitters come over and feed them but since he is outside I was worried he may be missing some of the food.

We did have a scare today at home as well. India ran out of the house and charged Tiger Stripe. She was so quick when she made her break. I tried to grab her but she wiggled free. Tiger Stripe squatted down in a defensive posture but did not get aggressive. India did not attack either. She did chase him to the bottom of the stairs and stopped once she saw how big the world was. I reached for her and she ran back into the house. It was a close one.

Merry Christmas!

Exercise today was carrying stuff to and from our vehicle, then two and from the dinner table. Is eating too much an exercise? if so I got extra sets in today. I did get to enjoy family today, and that is great.

Today was Christmas eve. I worked. I think I was the only one from my team in today. I had work to do so I did it. At the end of the day I went down stairs to wish my coworkers a Merry Christmas and the door was locked and the lights out. That was when I figured it out. Oh Well. Merry Christmas!

Today was a mellow day at work. Many folks have left for Christmas and the building is way more quiet than normal. Tomorrow should even be more so. I have some work to do so it will be a good day, but I am solo tomorrow with my co-worker taking off. I’ll bring some music and all will be good in the world.

Y3W46 Day 7

What a crazy day. It was rainy, but warm. We did not take advantage of the day with it being like it was. We did have a great interaction with a neighbor sharing his enthusiasm in making his daughter a doll house. He also beamed with pride when showing us her art.

We had about 20 high school/college age Christmas Carolers ring our bell and sing to us! 1st time in 20 years living here. They rocked it!

I found out my coworker’s truck was totaled this weekend. He and his girlfriend are fine. She parked it near work and someone ran a red light and hit 5 parked cars and totaled his jeep. Bummer.

The worst news of all was hearing my high school friend has been having medical troubles. She just found out she has a cancerous tumor in her pancreas. He husband is in the Army so I am not sure on what medical coverage she has. They have a beautiful family together that is going to be extra stressed out from this day forward through the holidays.

Life is full of surprises.

Y3W46 Day 6

AM:
We went on a hike! 4 miles in 2.5 hours.

There were some good up and down hills that really worked me. My legs were sore! We came across an area that had a beaver in it. He was a busy beaver for sure. The trees had visible teeth marks and wood shavings at the base. It ended up reaching 70 degrees today. What a treat when we had snow not long ago.2013-12-21 002

We also found a contender for our Christmas tree next year. This one looks like it will grow into a real beauty.

Y3W46 Day 5

Today was a good workout. The stair climbing machine kicked my butt! Work was good as well. Our boss treated us to a great meal at the Japanese Steakhouse. What a meal. When I was home I had some good kitty love with Pandora on my lap. She was so lovey dovey. I wa able to capture a picture of her looking not to amused.

The cats are really enjoying the Christmas tree. They are picking balls off the tree and swatting them around the kitchen.

They have been really good together, Pandora even helps India finish her food since Pandora eats faster. I hope no one notices there is a mess on the island.

And finally we have another treat for the holiday meal, Turducken. Sure some might think it is gross but I think we could all enjoy it. I just hope no one refers to it as TURD-Yuck-ing.

Today was a physical day at work. I spent a lot of time getting down on the floor then back up so I could demo cables from under the floor. I ended up sore enough that I needed to take some advil today at lunch. Tomorrow might be similar but not as bad.
