Y5W4 Day 7

AM:

Ice storm! Today we had sleet, ice and rain. It is sill pretty wet out and with temperatures dropping for the night tomorrow morning might be a mess. I am not sure if I should root for a day off or not.

Today was a rest and recoop day. I took a nap. We watched TV. Then we did date night! We went to the mall for massages, walked around a bit, went to a jewelry store, a CVS, Panera bread for dinner, we checked out an ice cream place but decided to go to the grocery store and buy a container of ice cream instead. A good night!

I did not do a PM workout because I was killing it at work today. I was so sore from all the running around and up and down on ladders I was too tired, sore and lacked the desire.

When I got home I changed clothes, and laid out on the couch. Hours later and my ankles stopped hurting. I feel like I had walked for 4 or 5 hours on a difficult hike!

Today we were “invited” to help on a project in another building (and in DC) relating to our field. Shocker, there were some problems. We got some of the work done but tomorrow will be another day of it.

My sore neck and back feels better after getting a massage at the mall after work. I feel better but still not right. Atleast I am feeling better.

Today disaster struck! we had a water pipe break in our crawlspace. Thanks to our great neighbors we got the water turned off (no water for the whole house) and the neighbor is coming over tomorrow to fix the pipe for us. We are luck to live where we do and have the neighbors that we have.

When I arrived at work I saw there was an email waiting for me. One of the requests I had completed and was scheduled for cut-over did not go well the night before. The in-house contractor brought in outside contractors to assist and worked at it for 4 hours and could not get it to work. So the blame came our way that something must be wrong with the cabling. We light tested the fiber link and it was good. I check the equipment and there is not any transmit laser coming of the ports. DUH! engineering problem. I email my Point of Contact(POC) along with the 30 other people attached to the message and explain what I found and suggested they need to check the configurations. I then receive a call from the POC asking me to explain what I just sent him. I read the email back to him word for word and he then again asks if it is possible it is a cabling problem. I explain AGAIN it is not and that we checked the fiber circuit from the back of one piece of equipment all the way to the back of the equipment at the other end. The links were good. The Port configurations turned out to be good also. DUH! then you need to check the hardware, the GBICs modules that plug into the equipment that allow the fiber to then connect must be bad. Troubleshooting 101. None of the geniuses thought to check to see if there was laser coming out of the equipment. As long as these type of folks work on site there will always be a need for us to be there to do the work.

I heard back from the owner of the suburban, he smoked in it so that one is off the list. Too bad it was only $3000 and had 157,000 miles.
