Y3W14 Day 7

Today we set out for a hike. We decided to go to Great Falls, MD and hike the upper trails. On the was there our brother called and wanted to come along after church and brought 2 of his daughters with him. We did most of our hiking before he got there but still managed to squeeze in a couple more miles once they made it to the park. The Potomac river was violently high and it was a sight to see!

Along our hike we saw not one, but two snakes! We also saw some cool flowers including Jack and the pulpit, and others we did not know the name of. This whole weekend was a good one spent with friends and family. Thanks everyone!

Y3W14 Day 6

AM:
a walk instead of a jog, my knee was bothering me.

Today was a day to catch up with a friend that I used to work with. He came over for a dinner and we had Meatloaf, potatoes and creamed/mashed cauliflower. It was good!

Earlier today I wanted to go for a jog. I set out with my wife but was unable to go more than a few houses down before I had to stop because of my knee pain. Bummer. We walked the neighborhood instead. It was OK to do that as it did not hurt, but there is no substitution for running. I hope the pain passes and I can get back to it.

Y3W14 Day 5

Today was a busy day at work, and I needed it. It kept my mind occupied and I was able to get through the day easier. I was also productive at home, I was able to schedule our appointment to refinance our house to a lower rate.

We also tried to do something nice for a robin that was hell bent on building a nest on a tiny ledge on our front porch. This bird has been trying for a couple weeks now and as it builds the nest the nest falls apart and falls to the ground because the ledge is not big enough. We took an old wicker basket and tied it up at the ledge and filled it with the nest material that has fallen in hope the robin may actually be able to use it for the nest. We should know in a few days if it worked or not.

Today was a sad day filled with thoughts of Daisy. Work was a busy which helped me get through the day. It was tough coming home to an empty house, when just two days ago I was greeted at the door with a poofy tail and happy to see me kitty. I came in the house through the basement and got my clothes to change into before heading upstairs to change. We live in an old house that creeks. I had a pause while getting shorts because I heard a noise much like Daisy would make walking on the floor above me. Echoes of the past.

Y3W14 Day 3 The Daisy edition 5/8/2013

AM:

It is with great sadness Daisy left us today. We loved her for 3 happy years. She got sick a few days ago and then stopped eating. We took her to the vet and the prognosis was grim. They were to keep her for observation over night and we decided to drive to the animal hospital to see her again tonight. She took her last breath as Miriam held her and she passed on knowing we were there with her, loving her until the end. Sweetie we miss you!

Y3W14 Day 2

AM:
4 sets of bench press
40 min elliptical machine

I must have strained my knee on the jog. I don’t know if I hurt the ligaments, tendons, muscle or something else. It was bothering me all day and I was limping around. On the way home from work I stopped at the drug store and picked up a knee brace. The squeezing pressure seems to help. I just don’t know if I will be able to wear it all day at work. I just don’t do things I set my mind to, I over-do them!

My birthday was a fine one today. I relaxed at home and did not stress on anything. Life is good.

Y3W14 Day 1

This weekend was a not very active one. I was sick and lounged around the house. My wife was doing volunteer work so I was able to be as lazy as I wanted. And I was Lazy! This morning I checked the weather reports and saw it was going to be raining for days but that this morning was going to be OK so I decided to go for a jog. I ended up covering 5.22 miles at a very slow pace. I surprised myself that I kept going and going. Of course when I do things I often overdo them and this run was no different. After the euphoria wore off I began to realize how sore my left knee was getting. I think I could have strained some ligaments or tendons. I am limping a bit but hope a good night sleep will have me good as new.

I did work out this afternoon even though my knee hurt. Surprisingly my knee felt great while on the elliptical machine for another 30 minutes. Once I got off it was right back to hurting. Tomorrow will let me know how bad I did it this time.

Y3W13 Day 7

AM:

Today was another rest day for me. I almost feel ok. I am still having lots of snot in the morning but otherwise I think I am OK. My wife on the other hand seems like she is back to being almost at her worst. She over did it this weekend volunteering with the Avon breast walk. She was busy until 9 pm last night and did not get home until 5pm today. She is run down. I got the rest and I got better. I did do something I wanted to today. I got the two motorcycles running and ready to go. I think I might be riding them soon into work, mixed with pedaling my bike in.

Tomorrow is a return to the daily grind.

AM:

1 hour bike ride with my wife.

Today I was still feeling sick. My breathing was off and my head was still fuzzy. I rested all day in the house watching shows and relaxing. I am even getting to bed early.

Y3W13 Day 5

AM:

20 min elliptical machine

Well I did get sick today. I called in sick and went back to sleep after the gym. I was hoping that I could sweat out my sickness and feel better, but that did not happen. Rest did me good but I am still not right. My wife is much better though. She is almost her regular self. That chicken soup I made kicked ass and was filled with the good healing that we needed.
