Y2W33 Day 6

I did it!  here is the write up I did for the Motorcycle site where this crazy idea came from.

So I did it. I made it from Harper’s Ferry WV back to Arlington VA! I owe my wonderful wife big time for getting up at 4 AM and dropping me off.

I didn’t do pictures for the first 30 miles of the ride since I already posted them last time. I changed bikes for this trip. I went with my Giant brand hybrid (XL frame) and I was way more comfortable than I was on my Mongoose mountain bike (L frame). The only time I was wishing for the Mongoose was the last 5 miles. I really could have used the lower gearing for the hills once I crossed the Key bridge from Georgetown into VA. The hills to get home were brutal with my legs worn out from the ride.
Attempt #2!
These pix are from the section I previously covered. This is the “Olympic training area” that was made for kayaking. This time there were folks getting into the water as I passed so I stopped to get some shots.

Less than 100 feet from here I pass this guy doing some fishing. He did not seem too concerned with me passing hime within 8 feet of his spot. I passed him then stopped for the picture.

It is my understanding all ADVrider reports need to include a picture of the food. So here is my lunch break.

I wanted the Mac and cheese to keep me binded up, I did not want to need to drop any biscuits on the ride, though the porta-potties were very clean between Harper’s Ferry and Edward’s Ferry.
Here are some random shots from along the way. For some reason my cell phone does not always save them numbered in the order that I took them.

These next pictures all happen past Great Falls. Great Falls was a mad house. People walking 7 across the entire trail, no one yeilding to anyone, I wish there was a way to get through there hassle free.

Do you see the bird?

I stopped for one more break 10 miles out of DC at Lock # 10. I was hurting by this point and needed to stop for 10 minutes or so. I was also hungry and there was a picnic table right next to the lock. Here are 2 pictures of the Lock mechanicals. I figure some folks here might appreciate this.

I finally make it to Georgetown and the Key bridge. I am so close to home I can’t wait! Off in the distance is the Washington Monument behind the Watergate Hotel which is next to the Kennedy Center.

I had the option to follow a trail to pedal past there on the way home but I did not want to do the extra distance, I was done!
There were some fols out enjoying the water, and the girl down there was rocking a bikini!

And then I made it home and all was good in my world…

Take care guys. I hope some of you get out there and enjoy this yourselves. I MIGHT be interested again AFTER the Army Ten Miler in late October.
Joe

Crap-a -doodle-do I forgot the Lock Boat picture. Must have bene that beer going straight to my head…

And here is what my dinner looked like:

I will be sleeping good tonight!
