Week 46 Day 1

Today was my job interview.  It went very well and I think I will get the job.  Now I just need to wait and see.

AM:

21 min jog
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
10 min weight lifting
22 min elliptical machine
My stomach was not feeling right. The gym was packed and I had some really bad gas. I could not strain and lift so I tried to do cardio. My stomach was working the gases out of me doing the cardio as well so I had to call it an early night of exercising. If the place was not packed I might had “worked through it”.

Week 45 Day 7

Sunday, Bloody Sunday….

SO this morning while hacking phlegm from my throat I noticed it has changed from the yellow/green color to a red/green color.  I guess my sickness is progressing.

I hit the gym this AM and took it a little easy.  I jogged a mile then did 40 minutes on the elliptical machine.   I did the same for my PM workout.  I did 40 minutes on the elliptical stepper, 20 min as a stepper then 20 min as an elliptical machine.

In between my two workouts I was riding the couch and watching TV.  I managed to fall asleep for about an hour.  It felt good.   I hope to get good rest tonight since I need to get up early to hit the gym and still have time to make my 8am job interview.  I can’t wait!

Week 45 day 6

So it is Saturday… and I should have weighed in….. I did not……..

I have been in a holding partern these last few weeks and I checked myself on my home scale and saw I an still holding steady so I saved myself the extra time of going to Bally’s and worked out at my local gym.  I am still feeling like A$$ from the cold/flu what ever it is kicking my butt.    I woke up at 2am with a pain in my raw throat.  I coughed and hacked some green snot and used a sore throat spray to help with the pain.  I was up for 40 minutes feeling bad.  I did get back to sleep and I woke up feeling half way OK.  The fevorish feeling comes and goes.  Last night I needed to sleep in sweat pants, socks and a shirt, when normaly I am wearing shorts only.

OK back on track.  There was a second reason to save some time with the closer gym, I needed to get to the bank too.  So I did than, stopped at a local shop for a gift for my one B-in-L and made it home for a shower and breakfast.  The rest of the day was spent riding the couch.  My wife is stuck in the funk again too.  She is having different symptoms though.  She has been having a sick feeling plus a fever.  We did not eat the same things the last few days but did share some common meals.  It is possible she got a touch of food poisoning, or the bug I have is just affecting her slightly different.  So to make a long boring story short,  we did not do any Holiday shopping today like we needed to.  We suck.

The afternoon rolled around so it was off to the gym for me.  I did pretty good, I did 60 minutes on the elliptical stepper machine.  I did the firt 30 minutes as a stair stepper starting at level 10 and working up to level 15.  The last 30 minutes I used it as an elliptical machine and increased the level up to 20 (the max!)and had a good sweat going.  It was a normal workout for me but I was still feeling sick.  It is wild that I can use the machine at the maximun setting and do it for a while.  I can’t do that with any other cardio machines.  I can max out the regular elliptical machine but only for a minute or two before needing to drop the resistance down some.  When I started with this machine many weeks ago I was using it at level 1 and sweating!  That is amazing. Dinner tonight was home made chicken soup.  We both need the healing properties.  My wife could not handle too much since her stomach is upset.  Hopefully tonight will be a better night for both of us.

Week 45 Day 5

Friday!  and I spent some money….

So I was still feeling sick today and I did not know how my gym time was going to go today.  I decided to jog on the treadmill for 2 miles and I felt pretty good.  No hacking or coughing, I felt good.  I then moved onto the elliptical stepper machine where I alternated between elliptical motion and stepping motion each 5 minutes for a total of 40 minutes.  I felt good but not great here.  I did sweat but not intensely.

My afternoon workout was weight lifting.  I started with dumbbell bench presses, cable incline presses, cable chest flies, dumbbell dead lifts, leg presses, and leg extensions.  A pretty good workout.  I still feel sick and have it come on in waves.  I feel good for a while and forget I am sick then I get the sniffles, coughs, sore throat, then it passes.  weird.

Now for the spending money part.  My truck tires have been balding for a while, but since I am only driving 2-4 miles in a day I have not worried about it.  Well yesterday I took a good look at them and I did not like what I saw.  There are tears and cracks in the bald tread and cracks in the side walls.  I needed new tires.  I was hoping to get by with just the front ones but the guy at the shop pointed out the cracks in the rear tire side walls and explained how dangerous it was.

I bought 4 new ones and an alignment.  I have to say, 17 inch tires suck!  If I wanted to get the ones like I had on there I would have been paying over $225 per tire, plus the “other fees” and the alignment.  I remember buying 40 dollar tires for my past cars, this was a shocker.  Especially now.  On the plus side I did get my vacation money today which  more than covers what I spent, but damn it was expensive.  I have one more interview on Monday and I think I will have the Job.   I hope it works out.  I am ready to be in the workforce again.

Daisy was verry supporting of me.  She hugged my feet to let me knoe she cares and is there for me!

She even used her laser beam eyes to brighten my day!

Week 45 Day 4

AM:

So today I have been feeling a bit under the weather. I did not sleep well due to nasal congestion and some coughing. I feel like a zombie! I was able to exercise this AM without too much trouble, though I did keep the machine on a lower level. My afternoon workout was more pathetic. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine at mid level effort then 30 min on the bike for a lower middle effort. I did not have a great sweat but feeling like I did I was OK with it.

When my wife was sick it hit her for days. I hope to bounce back quicker. I plan to still get my full workout time in even if I have to reduce my effort down to 25% of what I do.I took some night time medicine and hope to sleep better tonight. I think rest will be my friend.

This felt like a great workout. I was feeling pretty pumped up with how easy the bench press of 225lbs felt. I thought for sure I was going to get 245lb. On a different thought my throat was feeling a bit raw and I might be getting sick. I don’t feel weak, hot or cold but it could be coming. Tomorrow will be very telling if I am sick or not.

This evening I met with 2 of my brother-in-laws and 2 nieces. It was great seeing them. WOW the girls are getting tall! We had Chinese which is bad for my diet, but no worse than when I do a middle eastern night or eat out at a Mexican place.

Tonight was cool for another reason too. Our cat joined me on the computer chair as my co-pilot just like our past cat used to do. She is a funny one. Often she is not friendly but every now and then she does something nice like this and joins me or my wife when we least expect it.

Week 45 Day 2

Today was a strange day. I felt pretty good and got some things done. I also had a phone interview for a different possible job also in a data center. I did well but afterwards I kept going back to the fact I felt like there was a bad vibe to what the guy was saying. If I am reading between the lines properly and connecting dots that I think are there, this job will be in a pressure cooker environment where there will be little support or assistance because folks there are stretched too thin to handle there overburdening work loads. I could be wrong. I am lacking in some of the skill areas and am overqualified in others. He is unsure where my “extra duty” area assignment would be since I am weak in the two supplemental areas of the job. I hope the other job comes through for me…

Week 45 Day 1

I got up early!  I actually got up at 5:30 am without the alarm.  So it was off to the gym early and that got my whole day rolling good!

AM:

45 min weight lifting ( I am still sore from the dumbbell routine last week!)

Today was a great day despite being in the 20’s up to the low 40’s. I had my first job interview and it went well. I have a lot to offer a company and I think I will be the lucky one hired.

Dinner today was a wild card kind of meal. I baked some chicken breast and thighs and boiled the legs and wings to make soup for tomorrow. I also heated some Birdseye rice and mixed vegetables to go with the backed chicken. In the soup pot I added onion, carrots, frozen veggies, herbs and spices and some Trader Joe’s Harvest Grains Blend. To thicken the soup I added some instant mashed potatoes. The baked chicken was good and I enjoyed the rice, but when it came to seconds I grabbed a bowl of soup instead. This is the best soup I have mad in years! My wife skipped the baked chicken and enjoyed the soup as her dinner. Funny how the second though portion of the dinner prep became the star of dinner. It was a wild card!

Week 44 Day 7

A fun day but an off day!

Today was our neighbor’s Christmas Party and we went and had a good time. There were drinks and some great food! Many neighbors were there and we had a blast catching up. I was enjoying some rum spiked eggnog and the SPICY chili as well as some baked ham, deviled eggs, veggies, cold cuts, you name it and it was there. I caught quite a buzz from the rum. Glad we only had to cross the street to get home!

I did make it to the gym in the morning and do 60 minutes total splitting 30 minutes each on the elliptical machine and stair stepper machine. My afternoon workout was skipped since I was drunk and loaded up with some food items I don’t usually consume. Later in the evening our house became a war zone. There were trumpets blasting from both sides of the couch. Blankets were not able to stop the destructive forces and my wife retreated to the other couch. Don’t get me wrong she was holding her own, but alas victory was mine! Of course there was no sweet smell of victory.

Week 44 Day 6

Christmas shopping!

AM:
45 min elliptical machine

today was not the day I planned or the day I expected. I hit the gym and boy was I still sore from the dumbbell aerobics. I found 45 minutes to be enough for me today. I got home ate and after a couple of TV shows it was off to do some Christmas shopping. We were trapped in a time space anomaly. Time was moving at regular pace but perceived time was moving in slow motion. Everything took so much longer than it needed to. I felt like I was trapped in a Fringe event. We finally got home and it was time to start on dinner. I made meatloaf with both ground turkey and ground beef. We also had asparagus and Trader Joe’s harvest grain blend. I never made it to the gym for an afternoon workout. That sucked. I know tomorrow may be the thing too since we are going to a neighbor’s Christmas party and I will be having a few drinks there. Double whammy against me. Tis the Season…
