Week 37 Day 5

I went to a job fair today.  This is the second one I went to.  What I have gathered is that I need to look at the companies’ websites to look for the open positions.  I know in the future to just go to the websites and skip the career fairs.   There are plenty of fields that still have great job placement right now.  Nursing is one, the military is another.  TSA is hiring as well as some other places.  Problem is there are (in some cases) hundreds of folks applying for the same 3 jobs that might be open.  Not ideal.  Oh Well.

AM:
33 minutes Jogged 3 miles with my wife in the neighborhood.
50 minutes on the elliptical machine

PM:
56 minutes of weight lifting. Lighter weights more reps, sorter rests between sets.

I missed a workout yesterday afternoon and I have been stress eating with the job fair crap so I will be heavy on the scale tomorrow. That sucks! On the plus side next week I am traveling to NJ to visit my old college and might have a chance to compete in a wrestling tournament. I am 40 now and not as fast or skilled as I used to be. I am not expecting big things but it will be fun to get to compete one more time. And as a bonus there should be some funny stories.

Week 37 Day 4

I did my morning workout a little different today.  I brought 2 25 lb dumbbells over to the aerobic area and did 5 sets of 6 different exercises.  It took me close to 30 minutes to do.  I then did a 1 mile jog and 25 minutes on the elliptical machine.  I felt good and worked!

My PM workout was skipped today so I could decorate the yard for Halloween.  I was up and down on ladders, up and down stairs and moving stuff around in the garage getting my stuff together.  I simply ran out of time.  Not an excuse, just real life.

AM:

11 min jog
35 min elliptical machine
10 min bike

PM:
68 min of weight lifting
3 sets of squats
3 sets of over head presses
2 sets of military presses
6 sets of leg presses
6 sets of assisted weight pull ups
5 sets of incline bench presses
4 sets of curls

Today was an interesting day. I went to a job fair. Based on the website I was expecting to see about 50 different businesses there. Well there were only 8. Of the 8 only two did work in my career field. Neither had openings. Bummer. I enjoy doing the work I do but it might be tough finding another good company to join. I was not expecting things to be easy but I had hope based on the career fair website there would be opportunities for me and there simply was not too many opportunities at all.

Week 37 Day 2

Today was another day like many.  Nothing in particular that was note worthy, but it was far from a bad day.

AM:

60 min on elliptical machine

PM:

60 min on elliptical stepper machine

 

Today I was up really early and was not able to fall back asleep.  I got up and went to the gym earlier than I have been and I was feeling really tired come 11:00 am.  I took a nap for an hour and never felt really rested and awake all day.  My afternoon session in the gym was a good one.  My legs are still burning from the hike his weekend so I again did not jog but instead got on the elliptical stepper and did about 48 minutes as a stair stepper and about 12 minutes as an elliptical machine.  I really like how you can switch up on the go.  Tomorrow I am going to a job fair to see about some employment.  I hope to find something good but if not, I will continue with the gym and doing my thing.  I still need to hit the 100 pound lost mark.

I have been presented with a unique possibility.  I have been invited back to my old college with a possibility of wrestling other past wrestlers.    I was one of the original “starters” of the program and would be one of the oldest if not oldest competitors at the age of 40 years old.  I plan to go for it.  I’ve been beat up and bruised up at events in the past but have always enjoyed the competition and testing of my mental and physical abilities.  It is good to step outside your comfort zone and do crazy things.

Week 37 Day 1

AM:

45 min elliptical stepper machine

PM:

45 min of weightlifting.  Bench press, pull-ups,  over head presses,and dead lifts.

 

Job hunting has become more time consuming.  I have been spending a lot of time looking on line and working my resume.  Things will work out soon.

Here is a peak at what we had for dinner.  Steak, spinach and mashed turnips.  Delicious!

Week 36 Day 7

Harper’s Ferry, WV!

Today the wife and I took a little trip to West Virginia and visited historic Harper’s Ferry.  Well we visited the town eventually.  We actually went to the area to hike up the mountain and see the area that was a fort used to protect the area.  WOW! what a hike it was.  We were panting on the way up.  There were sections of the trail that were very steep.  It was quite a workout.  Once we neared the top things leveled out mostly.  We took some pictures along the way and loved what we saw.  It was spectacular.

One thing that was surprizing was all the bugs.  Yesterday we had none in Virginia, but today we were swarmed at times.  I have never seen so many stink bugs in my life!  they were landing on us, people around us, the cars at the bottom of the mountain!  Everywhere you looked, you saw stink bugs.  I would have thought I was in a rural part of New Jersey!  (“Inside joke”) One cool thing we did  on the was back down the mountain was we jogged.  We jogged for more than a mile on the way back.  It was closer to two miles.  It was a rush!  Today was the first day I can say I actually felt fit.  I hiked a hard trail with good steep inclines and made it feeling good.  I don’t remember feeling like that before.  I impressed myself.  That does not happen every day.

Week 36 Day 6

AM:
I still have not lost more weight! Darn it!

PM:
2 hour 15 min hike of Civil War battle fields.

We had fun hiking up and down hills, crossing fields, seeing folks on horses and walking on a boardwalk.  What a great day!

There was some other nature out and about.  My wife spotted a deer grazing off the trail and we saw this cute snake sunning himself.

He or she was a cutie!  We have a fasination with snakes.  Something just makes us touch them when we see them.  Turns out this little guy is a copperhead and is poisonous.  He was pretty quick too.  Atleast quicker than me.  He broke the skin on my hand but never got a good bite on me.   I don’t think I got dosed with venom since my hand did not swell up and I did not feel sick.  It was a tough walk back since we were about an hour from the truck.  Had it been bad, it would have been bad!

I almost forgot!  Our original destination was going to be hiking at Skyline drive.  Traffic was so bad we bailed on that idea and went to the battle fields instead.  We stopped at a farm to get some fruit and veggies and they had some cute animals there.  There were bunnies, small chickens and some small donkeys.

And just so someone can rest better, I was not bit. I know better

Week 36 Day 5

Happy Friday!  And in the spirit of funny on Friday check out this yacht being launched in China.

AM:
10 min jog
35 min stair stepper
10 min jog

PM:
63 minutes of weight lifting including Dumbbell bench press, incline dumbbell bench press, leg press, assisted chin-ups, shoulder presses and leg extensions. I felt good!

Today I did well with my eating. I was actually in control all day. I consumed 2,254 calories for the day. As usual dinner was the meal winner. I made Cashew Chicken, stir fry veggies and some ramen noodles.

That was one tasty dinner!  I hope to be light tomorrow as I really need to drop these last 5 pounds.  I have an idea for my acomplishment shirt for when I actually make it.   Tomorrow is going to be a fun filled day!

Week 36 Day 4

Something funny to start this off!

So today was a cardio day. I did 20 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer and 20 minutes on the bike for my morning hour. I broke a good sweat and felt like I did something. That was cool.

In the afternoon I did more cardio. I did 60 minutes on the elliptical machine setting my own elevation and difficulty settings. This shook things up for the hour I was on the machine. It helped Futurama was playing on comedy central.

I did good with my food until the end. I blew it watching the Ultimate Fighter. I pigged out on a bag of baked Ritz crackers. Dinner was good, I made Beef with Broccoli over brown rice.

Well  tomorrow is filled with possibilities.  May yours be full of surprizes.  Good surprizes.

Week 36 Day 3

An average day.

I got up hit the gym and had an average day.  Nothing special.  It was rainy so I spent some time playing video games.  I weight lifted in the afternoon and it felt good!

AM:

21 min jogging
30 min elliptical machine

PM:
Assited pull-ups 5 sets
squats 5 sets
over head presses 4 sets

Dead lifts 4 sets
ez-bar curls 4 sets
dumbbell flies 3 sets

And that was my day. I ate heavy on calories but feel good. Starting tomorrow I will go back to adding in the foods I eat as I eat them. That will help keep me tighter on calories.
