Week 36 Day 2

I jogged with my wife this morning!

It was rough getting up that early when I did not need to but I am glad I did.  We did our 3 mile loop and we were fast.  We did it in 30 minutes and change.  Since I was awake and too sweaty to go back to bed I headed to the gym for bonus cardio.  I went ahead and did another mile on the treadmill and then 20 minutes on the elliptical machine.  Good stuff.  I came home, ate breakfast and watched some TV then took a nap.

I worked on unemployement stuff for the rest of the morning and treated myself to some video gaming at lunchtime.  I also got a hair cut today to keep myself groomed.  Just because I am unemployed does not mean I need to look homeless!  (just some humor, take it easy Francis).

My afternoon workout was 60 minutes on the elliptical stepper machine alternating 5 minute segments between elliptical strides and stair stepping strides.

Diner was amazing but a lot to digest.  I got some big italian bread and toasted it in the oven with some smart balance and garlic powder.  I then cooked down 1.5 bags of baby spinach, a skinned eggplant and some mushrooms.  I made chicken parmesan with baby spinach on one half, and eggplant parmesan with mushrroms on the other side.  I had added a thin layer of part skim ricotta cheese on each side for bonus protein.   The meal was amazing.  It was like pizza, open face italian sandwiches and healthy foods all combined.   Of course there was too much bread.  But it was a sandwich inspired meal so duh, there had to be bread. Here is what the meal looked like as I made it.

I originally thought this was going to be something that would be folded up as a sandwich but there was no way that would work.  Each half was too thich on its own.  This may not have been my most healthy meal I have made in a while, it was not all bad either.  Chicken breast, spinach and eggplant all were good.  I used skim or reduced fat for the cheeses and the eggplant was not breaded or fried.  This would have been a great meal to share with family

Week 36 Day 1

I set a new personal record! I ran a mile in under 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

Sure I know for many that is not fast but for me, that sure is.  I have been struggling to break below the 9 minute mile threshold.  In fact I had stopped trying for a while and I did not plan to run fast today but as I started I felt good and kept going faster until I realized I was going to be under 9 minutes for the mile.

After the fast mile I jogged a mile in 11 minutes then moved on to the elliptical machine and stepper going for 20 minutes each.  Later in the day I went back and hit the weights.  I did assisted pull-ups, leg presses, incline bench press, floor to overhead presses with dumbbells, lateral raises, and the curl machine.  It was a good session at 52 minutes.  I felt worked but not over worked.

I seemed to have eaten ok today.  My calorie tracker is showing I consumed 2,043 calories.  I slept in late today and putzed around the house before hitting the gym for my AM workout so I did not eat as many meals/snacks as I would have so that worked out to my favor.  I look forwa

Week 35 Day 7

RESET!

Today was a reset day for me.  Yesturday I got home late from the fights and did not make it to bed until 3am.  I was up at 8am and awake for a while.  I ate breakfast and my wife and I pedaled to the farmer’s market and then to the grocery store for some shopping.  We got home and watched some tv and I slept for a couple more hours.  I was out.  I did not go to the gym in the afternoon either.  I don’t feel bad as I really needed a day of rest and I have not had a day like this in over six months.

Week 35 Day 6

HIKING and MMA FIGHTS!

What a day, what a day!  I skipped the gym this morning and my wife and I went on a 3 hour hike along the Potomac river.  The weather was perfect.  It was in the mid 60’2 to low 70’s for our three hours.  We saw more crickets than ever before, a chipmunk, fish, a blue tailed lizard and a duck.  Of course other people hiking and some with dogs.  It was a perfect day to be out and about.  On the way out we both got fatigued and cut the distance short from our goal.  On the way back we made up for it by jogging small sections.  We were 10 minutes faster coming back than heading out so the jogging distance had to be about 3/4 of a mile.

I was not able to go to the gym in the afternoon because my buddy had an extra ticket for MMA fights in Baltimore.  WOOHOO!  cage fights!

I don’t think the ring girls were tested for performance enhancing body parts, LOL!

The fights were cool to see. There were a couple stand outs for being very skilled and there was one guy from West Virginia that based on appearances should not have been in the same area fighting at 195lbs.  He did not win but went the full 3 five minute rounds and even cut up his opponent a bit.  His opponent was a local guy and he was chisseled steel in appearance but could not propperly ground and pound the West Virginia guy.  You really can’t judge a book by its cover.

Today was cheat day for my diet.  I was good until the fight where I had 2 hot dogs, a soft pretzel and a Miller Lite.  Once I got home at 12:45 I stopped a Wendy’s and got a single cheese burger meal with lemonade.  I was fiending for food and took the easy way out.  First time in a long time that I got fast food like that.   I don’t feel too bad as it was a cheat night.  I bet I go another many months before I do it again.  Have a great night,  I sure did!

My lower back was sore today from lesterday’s workouts. I took it easier than would normally. I weighed myself this morning and I was 1.2 pounds heavy. Bummer I was hoping to be light butnot today. I would normally weigh myself on Saturdays but feeling sore I knew today was not going to be a great workout day. I may not even weigh myself tomorrow.

Nerd alert:

I spent some time playing RAGE today.  There are portions of the game requiring you to compete in races with dune buggies.  I normally like racing games but not in the middle of my first person shooters.  It is OK though,  I had a particular mission to accomplish and it was the most fun I have had in the game so far.  The Shrouded Clan mission gives you the remote control bomb cars.  They are fun!

The last few nights my knees have been sore. I have even taken some Advil for it. I am going to keep an eye on my workout routine to see if I may need to change things up to ease the pain and also keep an eye on the scale to see if I am doing the right thing with my changes.

On a dorky video game note,  RAGE is a cool game BUT Borderlands  (IMHO) is a better game.  Rage is like a combination of Borderlands, Fallout 3 and Bioshock 2.  I played Borderlands and Fallout 3 until the end.  I played Borderlands over and over again after completing it.  No so with the other two.  Rage does have great scenery graphics but the character graphics do not look better than the other games.  Will it grow on me more to the level of Borderlands?  It is too early in my gameplay to guess.

I just heard  Steve Jobs  has passed away.  Steve rest in peace.  Thank you for you contributions to Apple, and through Apple, the world.  You helped touch many folks.

Week 35 Day 1

My first day of unemployment!

To celebrate the event I slept in.  I got up at 7:00 am and headed out for the gym and walked!  I figure I might as well save gas and without a job to go to I could take all the time I wanted to with the walk back and forth.  I tracked the distance using and app for my phone.  The app is called jog tracker and tracks distance, speed, elevation changes and maps your path on a map of the area.  Really cool app.  So anyway the walk is .6 of a mile and it took 12 minutes to walk it.So today I went to the gym twice and walked an extra 2.4 miles!

Dinner was the winner for food today. I cooked some steak as well as some black beans and rice. I added tomato and green pepper to the rice to add some veggies.

Now for my big announcement…..

I GOT LAID OFF!

All the pressure and worrying about it can now be put to rest. It happened. I might have 2 options open up to me this week week. If things don’t happen this week I will begin looking for my next big thing. In the mean time I will focus on getting my exercise time in and doing what I need to for reaching my goal. I am 5 pounds away!
