Y3W4 Day 6

Today was a special day. My old college was competing in the NCAA Div III wrestling tournament at Gettysburg College, in PA. My wife and I made the trip and seeing the action live was amazing. I missed the thrill of competing. I missed the fun I had at Centenary starting the ball rolling with wrestling and asking Professor Quade to “coach” us. He was an academic advisor and Chairman of the business department at the time. We did not have enough guys to fill each weight class. We did not have mats to practice on, or a place to practice at all. We used to sneak into the local high school and practice on their mats when we could. We would use the dance studio when we could. We exercised in the weight room and jogged outside on our own when that was all we could do. We had fun going to a few tournaments.

Today on March 2, 2013 at Gettysburg college in PA Centenary College won their NCAA Div. III Regional title. I got to see over 4 hours of the matches live in Gettysburg, and once I got home I was able to find the Championship matches streamed live from the college. I saw the Centenary Wrestling team win today. It made me feel proud. I know Professor Quade was watching and cheering them on.

Today was another crazy, busy day at work. Go, go, go all day. It will be nice for things to slow down some so we can catch up with the documentation.

I am really looking forward to seeing my old school competing at the NCAA Div. III regional wrestling tournament. I have never had a chance to compete at that high of a level, and never had an opportunity to go and see what it is like to watch the matches and witness potential future Olympians and MMA stars. Since wrestling is being dropped for the 2020 games these guys are in the age group and generation that will be the last to compete in 2016. I hope I will see the fine competitors move on to greatness.

Y3W4 Day 2

PM:
Nothing. I was horribly sore from work. I ended up needing 3 advil at work from being sore.

My wife is training for her ten mile race coming up and she is doing great. I realize that if I don’t get back to running this summer is going to be a tough one on me. I will not have the energy to keep up with her hiking. I am trying to slowly ease back into running since my body aches after running distances longer than a few miles. I try to work back up to 5 miles a run. Right now I am not doing a mile straight unless I am jogging in the mornings to help my wife, then I do three straight. I am hoping the cycling of walking and jogging can give me most of the benefits of jogging but less of the body abuse. The next few weeks will let me know if I am right.

I worked hard today. There was plenty of ups and downs and moving about. I was still sore from the weekend and my muscles were letting me know they were not happy.

On a plus side I was given a job offer to the company I temp to and will now be a full time employee eligible for there benefits and vacation time. Nice.

My legs are so sore from the leg presses yesterday. I have been hurting big time. Miriam wanted to do a longer jog today as training for her 10 mile race and I thought about jogging for a second. The second it took me to swing my legs out of bed and realize how much my legs still hurt from the squats! So I pedaled my bike in low gears with her as she jogged. Overdoing it really is a bad feeling, but at the same time I know I really worked my muscles. On the bike ride today someone from the gym was out riding with his kids and wife and hollered a hello to me. This is the second time we have bumped into each outer while out and about. Last time was shopping at Trader Joe’s.
