Y2W9 Day 6

Super hike!

Today was a beautiful day so the wife and I headed out for a hike.  I skipped the gym knowing we would be out for a while.  I got to pick where we went and I chose going to Bull Run Regional park for us to hike on the Bull Run-Occoquan trail.  The trail id 18 miles long and we had hiked a section of it last year from the Occoquan side.  Today we started on the opposite side and hiked 7 miles out.  Of course we needed to hike back so that gave us 14 miles for the day.  We covered the distance in 5 hours and 22 minutes.  We did stop for lunch at the 7 mile mark and stopped the time on our timer to reflect traveling time only.  Today was a LONG DAY!

The terrain changed 3 times and surprised us each time it did.  We started in a currently dry wet lands area that was flat.  Blue bells were blooming everywhere you looked.  We hiked along the creek for a few miles the the terrain got hilly and the ground was like a New Mexico trail.  The soil was filled with red clay and crushed red rock.  We were totally surprised to see that.  Miles later the surrounding changed again and we were in what looked to be a pine tree Forest.  Some things that really stood out this hike was a big rock pile that had a sign that read take a rock, leave a rock.  I guess this is where pet rocks go so they don’t have to be alone.

Another cool spot was this huge tree that was hollowed out.  Miriam could have hidden in it for sure.

We also crossed a tilted bridge that bounced and swayed as you crossed it.  She did not like it when I bounced on it while we were crossing together.

And you know we would get a picture of water at least once!

This day of hiking felt like a day when we would travel on vacation for a couple weeks to get out into nature.  We reminisced about past hikes and future ones we will take.  Today was a great day!   Booyah!

Happy Friday!

AM:
11 min jog
50 min elliptical machine

PM:
25 min weight lifting in garage

I drove in to work today which meant I walked an additional mile besides all the walking I do in my job duties. I felt lazy once I got home so I headed out to the garage and did 5 sets of overhead resses, 4 sets of bent over rows and 4 sets of EZ-Bar curls. Not bad. Tonight we had a treat for dinner. We got some takeout from a place near where I work. Everyday when I leave work I smell the most amazing chicken being cooked. It was really good. We will go back again and it would be convienent for me to pick some up on the way home some time in the future.

3 sets each push-ups and dumbbell shoulder presses
35 min walk with wife after dinner

Today was an OK day. Nothing special, nothing great, nothing terrible. Tomorrow is Friday then the weekend!

Y2W9 Day 3

Come on weekend!  When I was unemployed every day was a weekend day, now I treasure my two days off in a row!

AM:

3 mile jog with my wife

56 min neighborhood walk after dinner with my wife

 

Today was a good day.  I got a bonus 1 hour of sleep after the 3 mile jog.  I had to choose between watching some TV or sleeping more and I chose right.  Hopefully tomorrow I will have the energy to lift after working.

Today was an OK day. Work was good but I was tired form not getting enough sleep. I was late getting to the gym after work so I was late getting back and getting dinner started. That threw the whole night off. At least dinner was good. I made steak, mushrooms, roasted asparagus and roasted peppers.

Off to the gym!

10 min jog (my knee did not hurt, I was able to go as fast as 7.4mph)
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
8 sets of Bench press
4 sets of dumbbell dead lifts
5 sets of EZ-Bar curls

Bonus- 1 mile walked to/from my car at work today

Today was a pretty good day. Work went well and I enjoyed myself again. The best part of the day was surprising my wife with a fresh baked home made pizza! We loved it!

Y2W8 Day 7

Sunday….

AM:
45 min elliptical machine

PM:
60 min walk through neighborhoods

Today was a good day even though I was tired for most of it. I was able to go do some target shooting at the range since my wife went to meet her Avon walking partner for some miles of practice. Nothing else really going on other than it is time for bed so I can be ready for working out and going to work tomorrow.

Y2W8 Day 6

What a day!

I started by going to the gym and jogging 2 miles then getting 20 minutes in on the elliptical machine.  From there it was home for some breakfast then out with the wife to go hiking and walking.  We did it differently today.  We picked spots we used to go to that are on the small side and tried to fit in multiple locations and some neighborhood walks too.

We went to Luber Run park and walked 1.14 miles, then we went to the Winkler Preserve and hiked 1 .86 miles.  The trails there were somewhat hilly but oh so scenic.

After this it was a trip home for a power nap and some TV.  After that it was back out to walk some neighborhoods.  We went to Clarendon in Arlington County (a few neighborhoods over) to walk around and see some nice streets and then hit the shops to get me some mew hiking boots.  As we walked around the neighborhood we found a common theme,  many of the houses had cuckoo decorations,  Loonie even!  The on that stood out the most was a coat of arms free standing outside a home’s front entrance.  It had bunny ears on it and Marti Gras beads on it.

That wasn’t the only weird thing.  One House had a panther statue and a dog statue chained up in front.  Others had Gargoyles, gnomes and other things too.  Weird!  So after this walk it was home for some dinner and wouldn’t you know we went out for another walk after dinner.

For the day I walked 7.43 miles  in 3 hours and 12 minutes.  Nothing amazing but still a great way to spend time with my wife.

Y2W8 Day 5

Finally Friday!  What a week…

I got up early this AM to possibly jog with my wife.  Unfortunately it was too cold out to do that.  I could have gone back to bed but was not tired enough to do it.  I hit the gym early and did an extra 15 minutes of cardio on the bike after my 60 minutes on the elliptical machine.  Work was tiring today and I needed some Advil.

I did make it to the gym today after work and lifted for 26 minutes.  I did incline bench presses and seated high rows on a machine.  I felt my muscles screaming during the high rows.  It was a good short workout.  I did make it to the store to get a few more Mega-Millions Lottery tickets.With any luck I could be retiring early.  You know you got to plan for your future and you got to be in it to win it!

Y2W8 Day 4

That was my breakfast.  Turkey sausage, a bagel with cream cheese, and hard boiled eggs.  I also ate a banana.  YUM!

AM:

35 min elliptical stepper

33 min bike ride to/from work

PM:
30 min neighborhood walk with my wife

Today was a good day but a tiring one. After lunch my brain slowed down and my body ached from working on my feet all day. I was too sore to consider going to the gym. If it wasn’t for needing to play some lottery numbers I would not have gone on the walk with my wife. My knee and ankles were really sore. I seem to have a noticeable limp when I am hurting. I took some Advil and hope I will be ready to run tomorrow in the AM.
