Y2W8 Day 3

A great day of work!   It has been a while since I have been able to say that.  I was into what I was doing and enjoyed the challenges of what I was doing.  I have to think as I am doing things and that is not something I have had to do for a long time.  It is also great to be working with a past co-worker again.

AM:
11 min mile
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
20 min dumbbell aerobics

Evening:
37 min walk through the neighborhoods with my wife!

Today was good all around.  I am feeling good (except for my knee, it still gets sore enough that I am limping when trying to walk fast enough to keep up with my wife!) and looking forward to future activities.

LIFE IS GOOD!

Y2W8 day 2

Today was another cold day.  It was 32 degrees today when I drove to the gym to work out.  On the plus side I was able to jog 2 miles on my knee.  It did not hurt but I went easy with my pace.  I finished up my workout with 30 minutes on the elliptical machine.  With the weather so cold I did not want to pedal into work.  I drove in and found a better place to park.  I found a place that is the same half mile away from work, but is in the direction I live instead of further away.  That made my drive home quicker.

Since I drove in I had more energy to get my butt into the gym.  I did some bench press, assisted pull-ups and leg presses.  Here is where I know my knee is not right.  I was only able to work out up to450 pounds instead of the 630 to 810 pounds I normally do.  Tomorrow is going to be cold again so I will be exercising in the gym again.  I do hope to get out and jog later in the week with my wife.  It is always great to share that with her.

Y2W8 Day 1

So I worked out at the gym this morning since my knee is not 100 percent yet.  I did 50 minutes on the elliptical stepper alternating each minute between stepping and elliptical motions.  I worked out up to level 19 (of 20) and felt pretty good.

I pedaled into work today and did not have any problems with my knee.  It did feel not quite right but not bad.  I was able to work the day on my feet and only experienced stiffness in my knee.  I did not spend much time kneeling though so that will be the real test for tomorrow.

When I got home after work I did not feel like going to the gym.  I did go out into the garage and lift some weights.  I did overhead presses, Lat pull downs and standing curls with the Ez-Curl Bar.   This was not a great workout but it was better than sitting on the couch!

Being unemployed for a while had me budget shopping for groceries.  Since I am now working it was time to treat myself to some Filet Mignon.  Dinner was great.  We had cooked spinach and greens mix and mushrooms too.  My w

Y2W7 Day 7

Happy Sunday!

This morning my knee still felt tweaked.  I went to the gym and took it easy on the elliptical machine for 35 minutes then on the bike for 15 minutes.  It does feel better now in the evening and should be even better in the morning.

Today was a fun day of watching TV and shopping.  I picked up a new drill at Home Depot and then did some grocery shopping.  Nothing too exciting.  What was made for dinner was exciting though.  We baked a chicken and I made an incredible stuffing.  I got a frying pan hot with some EVOO in it, added chopped onions, mushrooms, spinach and shredded carrots, then cooked them up with some seasonings.  I then took half a loaf of bread and chopped it up into small cubes.  I added some chicken stock to it,  one apple chopped up  and then the veggie mix.  Stirred it well and baked it for 30 minutes.  The chicken baked with 3 garlic cloves chopped up in the cavity of the bird, and a dry seasonings mix applied to the skin.  The meal was amazing!  I forgot to take a picture of the two finished products before making up my plate but I think you can still see the goodness of the meal.

Y2W7 Day 6

Saturday!  The weekend is here!

So this weekend my wife was going to be doing some training for her big walk coming up.  Her and her friend were going to get some distance in.  I figured “GREAT,  I can go do some target shooting”.   So I get up at 6am and realize I am going back to sleep for a while.  I snooze until almost 8am when I finally get up.  I did not want to get up then but I saw how late it was and go up.  My wonderful wife decided we needed to go hiking in stead of me going to the gym for my morning workout.  It was supposed to rain a lot today.   What the heck, my wife’s plans fell through due to weather so I was OK with it.   We found a section of the Potomac river trail that we have never been on.  This is so amazing that we can still find local places that we have visisted many, many times but have not seen it all.   Since I gave up the gym I wanted to do more than just hike.  We jogged some also.  Our total distance for the day was 4.69 miles.  It took us 1:35 minutes to do it.  I figure we must have jogged between 1.25  to 2.25 miles.  Some of it was tough going up hills.  I was in the zone!  I felt great!  I kicked my wife’s butt jogging today! (she beat me on Friday and out walked me today so I was happy to be the quick one jogging).  The best part of the hike was seeing the flowers from last week or the week before in full bloom.  We timed it perfectly.

We got so lucky,  It just started to rain as we got to the truck.  Had we been out there 5 minutes longer we would have been quite wet.  We went home had some lunch and then went our separate ways to take care of business.  My business was putting holes in paper targets (wait for it…wait for it..) and business was good!  I brought one of my own and rent a Glock 26 as well.  The one I brought has a 2.7 inch barrel and is not a target pistol rather it is for up close and personal self defense.  I shot it well enough at 7 yards, but it is meant for closer range than that.  I tried out 3 different ammo brands to see what works well since there are Internet rumors saying this brand pistol can be picky with ammo.  I had no problems with any of the ammo feeding.  Two were hollow points and one was pow’r ball.  The pow’r ball is a premium priced self defense round.  20 rounds were as expensive as 50 for the other 2 brands.  I had a failure to fire with the premium stuff on the first round.  Well I never need to buy that stuff again!  Once I was done with mine I switched to the Glock to finish out the day.  Unbelievable!  my first 5 shots were all bulls-eye!I should have stopped there with the target and brought it home,  that looked really cool.  But I did have 45 more bullets to shoot so I did and I did not keep all the others in the bulls-eye.  All the shots were point scores so I felt good about that.  In fact my groupings were tighter with the rented gun (3.5 inch barrel) than with my own pistol (2.7 inch barrel).    Size makes a difference.

With the fun done it was time to hit the gym and lift some weights.  I did bench press, cable flies and dumbbell dead lifts.  I felt good about what I did but I did not feel good.  My right knee was really bothering me.  It felt like it wanted to give out.  I think the jogging today was OK but at some point I must have stressed the muscles/tendons/ligaments and stuff tightened up from resting at home on the couch before going to the gym.  Tomorrow I will know if it is a sprain of something or just some general soreness.

Y2W7 Day 5

Happy Friday!

Today was a great day.  I did it right.  I Got up early and jogged 3 miles with my wife,  went back to bed for a bonus hour of sleep then got ready for work and rode my bike in.  I worked my day and pedaled home.  I did not feel like hitting the gym since I was feeling sore so I decided on doing some sets of sit-ups at home.  I was able to enjoy some TV and work out.  After dinner tonight we took another walk around the neighborhoods.  We don’t go for long, just 20 to 30 minutes but it is enough and all bonus activity.

AM:

15 min walk in the neighborhood after dinner

Today was a good day. Work was good and I felt good most of the day. I did have a headache for part of it and after lunch my body was sore from the crouching and reaching but I survived it and felt good once home.

Dinner was a spectacular oddity. We had a veggie nacho platter with salmon on the side. The nachos had melted cheese, home made guacamole, and homemade salsa, and cooked spinach on top. Weird, but it worked well together.

Y2W7 Day 3

I jogger 6 miles this AM for my morning workout!  I am so on my way to doing the Army Ten Miler later this year.  This will be the tenth year anniversary of me running it.

I also pedaled to and from work today.  That was good to do.  I enjoy the ride and it feels like it is getting easier.  Not like a 3 mile bike ride is tough, just that there are a few small hills that get my heart pumping and they are getting easier to tackle.

My wife made an amazing dinner for us tonight that will be going into our weekly rotation.  She made a middle eastern seasoned turkey meatball dish with cous cous and a side salad.  She is getting really good with the seasonings.

After dinner we went out and walked the neighborhood.  It was so pleasant to be out and about.  We walked past the local dog park.  There were so many dogs running around playing, it was great to see.  It was also great to see and smell the flowers along the way.  Today rocked!

Y2W7 Day 2

Today was a better day.  We started our day with a 3 mile job for cardio.  We did well and have been averaging 11 minute miles.  That is not fast but with hills and needing to wait at a couple lights  to cross the streets we are OK with it.  We are a funny pair when it comes to jogging.  I like to start fast knowing I will slow down as I get tired.  I may not even realize I am doing it but that is how I am.  My wife likes to start out slow and build up her speed.  She does that because she occasionally has her knee feel funny and that is a way for her to warm it up. So anyway we are comfortably doing 3 miles as a starter run.  Last year we had to work up to this level.  That is pretty wild to think about.

Today I drove into work instead of biking in due to the rains and fear of thunder storms and down pours.  I would have been fine.  the rains had stopped prior to me leaving and did not start again the rest of the day.  No biggie.  I did end up having the energy to go to the gym once I got home and lifted weights plus got 20 more minutes of cardio in.  I feel good!

Now that I am back to work I am eating better during the day but I am also fiending for food once I get home.  It is getting easier and I expect I will see the pounds dropping on the scale soon.

Dinner tonight was chicken things, asparagus and tortellini with Alfredo sauce.  It rocked.  We are making a real effort to prep food more often since we are both getting home later.  It makes making meals easier when some of it is already done.  Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of it, but trust me it was good.

Happy Monday!  Well at least happy 5 more days until the weekend?

I had the best intentions to go to the gym after work but did not have it in me to do it. I got home and my sore body just wanted to rest on the couch and that is what I did. I am having a really tough time adjusting to a later start and finish time for work. I hate it that I feel this way and hope I can get back into a groove of twice a day.
