Y2W6 Day 7

Today was a one workout day.  I did not plan it that way but that is how it ended up being. We went for a great hike along the Potomac river on the Virginia side.  The air was cool and the sky was cloudy, but that did not stop us.   We saw some cool things along the way and we took a few pix too.  One spot that was special was an area that looked like a cave might exist.  There was a large area of quartz rock in a larger rock formation.  Near the bottom was evidence that the area could be hollow and form a cave.  We bent down to check but saw it did not go in far.  The ground there was also soft and sandy so it could be cleared out easily.  The water level from the river could easily reach this area in times of flooding so ther is no telling what this cave like area might really be.

There were some other cool views along the way as well.  This was from up to the ridge before we made our way down to the water.

And of course some scrambling over some rocks on the trail…

We saw some evidence that nature takes it course out here,  glad we were not aroung to see what was doing the eating!

And there was also a surprise along the was,  we came across an area we do not ever remember, and area with some homes built close to the water!  These had to be million dollar homes.

After all this fun we needed to go do some shopping.  I needed a couple more pairs of pants for work and we needed to do some grocery shopping.  I was on my feet most of the day and we did not get home until later in the day.  That is how it ended up being a one workout day.

Dinner was a fun meal tonight.  We cooked up some chopped chicken in a pan with chopped cashews, mushrooms, spinach  and shredded carrots.  I seasoned the meal with an Asian sauce from a jar.  We ate the combination on lettuce leaves like you would eat tacos.  Another great meal.

What a perfect weekend this was!

Y2W6 Day 6

Happy Saint Patrick’s day!

Today was a family fun day.  My wife, her brother and I went out for a nice hike at Donaldson Run in Virginia. (this was after 45 minutes in the gym for me earlier in the morning) and we hiked 4.54 miles in 2 hours and 19 minutes.  It felt good.  The weather was warm, sunny and pretty much perfect.  Nature was out in full force as we saw wood peckers, other birds, and 2 different sets of deer!

After wearing ourselves out we went out and shared a meal together to celebrate my wife’s birthday.  We ate well and then split up for a bit so I was able to take care of a few things and they went shopping together.  We met back up a while later and shared another meal together and relaxed with some TV.  It was a great day for sure.

Y2W6 Day 5

My First full week of work!

It feels good to be back in a routine.  I also feel tired and sore.   I am enjoying this and hope it will continue to be great.

AM:
33 min jog outside
17 min bike ride to work

PM:
17 min bike ride home
30 min weight lifting at the gym

With tomorrow being Saturday I expect there will be some hiking in my future!

Y2W6 Day 4

Another great day of work!

AM:
60 min elliptical stepper
16 min bike ride into work

PM:
16 min bike ride home from work
30 min weight lifting (squats, over hread presses, curls)

Today was another day of standing bending and reaching.  Work has been great and I have been feeling tha activity in my whole body.  I expect after a week or so I will settle back in and all will be normal.  One of the down sides to work is that I am no longer getting to the gym at 4pm to lift.  The gym was pretty empty then.  I am now getting there at 5:45ish and the place is packed.  Less choices on what I want to do.  Today I did my lifting in the garage once I got home.  I have

Y2W6 Day 3

Happy Birthday to my Honey Bunny!

To celebrate the day we jogged 3 miles together before work.  Now that is love!

I pedaled to and from work for another 33 minutes of cardio and still made it to the gym for some exercise.   My body was fairly sore from work so I tried to do some lifting but was too sore to do it so I did more cardio.

Today was not a good day for dieting.  There were “birthday cupcakes” that I bought and enjoyed.  Tomorrow is a new day and I hope to not be sore and lift more.  If I find this is the new norm for me I will need to adjust my morning w

Y2W6 Day 2

Today was a much better day all around.  I went to the gym and got in a full 60 minutes on the elliptical machine.   I pedaled into work and back in 35 minutes, which is 5 minutes faster than I had done it previously.  My work day did not exhaust me and I was able to go to the gym after work and weight lift and get some bonus cardio in.  Today rocked!

I am finding I am eating better now that I have structure in my day.  I don’t snack during the day since I am busy and don’t realize how the time flies by.  It will be interesting to see if I drop more weight with this employment change.

Y2W6 Day 1

I am now working!

And let me tell you I am tired.  I re-oganized a supply room for 5 hours today and there was a lot of lifting involved.  I also pedaled to and from work.  My body is sore.

Today was also special because it was the first day I jogged outside in the morning for exercise.  I did a 3 mile loop in 35:30.  I felt really good starting out and felt like I was going fairly fast, but my time does not reflect this.  I must have slowed down more than I thought I did.

I was too tired and sore to go to the gym after work today.  That was bad of me but my body does feel worked and I think I will be able to get back into the groove pretty soon.

Y2W5 Day 7

What a great day!

Today my wife and I set out on an adventure hiking the Virginia side of Great Falls.  We had not been there in more than a year.  Since there has been plenty of rain in our recent past the Falls were still roaring.  We hiked all the way down to the water as well as on the ridge trail that gave us spectacular views.  We could not have asked for a better day!

Just for some perspective on the size of the falls,  look to the bottom left of the last picture and you will see people climbing on the rocks near the water.

The day started out cold and warmed up nicely.  We hiked for close to 3 hours.  Today was the kind of day you look forward to.  Tomorrow will be an adventure too, just a different kind of one.  I hope I will have good things to say about it!

My afternoon workout was a lighter one.   I went to the gym and weight lifted for 25 minutes.  I would have stayed longer but I was funky.  I really stunk.  I did not realize how much I stunk until I was there working out and caught a whiff of myself.  After doing 8 sets of seated shoulder press and 8 sets of leg extensions I skipped the 20 minutes of cardio since the area was packed and I did not want to offend anyone with my funk.  I headed home, showered and felt (and smelled) so much better.   Now it is off to bed.

Y2W5 Day 6

Today was supposed to be a fun guy day.  Things did not quite work out though.  My wife was participating in a walking event that was going to take hours so I was free to do as I pleased.  I had plans to play some online video games with a buddy that fell apart when he got called into work (he was on call).   I still enjoyed my self but missed out on some good coop first person shooter missions in RAGE.

I learned something interesting today. I can pedal to my new job in 20 minutes. If I drive it takes 10-15 minutes to get there in traffic, the 15 minutes to walk there from where I can park for free. It is faster to pedal to work! I don’t know what I will do in the rain, but either way I will still be getting wet, walking or riding.

Y2W5 Day 5

Today will be another quick one.  I worked out in the morning jogging a mile, 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and then 15 minutes on the bike.  I needed to go in to work to get my ID Card and I parked 15 minutes away in a free parking zone.  Turns out I walked a mile round trip.  Cool.  I missed my afternoon workout due to the fact I needed to go take a drug test,  pick up a few things, fill out more paper work and help the wife out with dropping off her car then picking it back up an hour later.  Time got away from me.  Tomorrow should be better.
