Week 48 Day 7

another hiking day!

Today was different though, I started by going to the gym and doing 45 minutes on the elliptical machine.  This was good for me.   After getting home and eating a meal we set out to Rock Creek Park to hike some.  We did a 2 mile hike on a trail then walked the roads some totaling 4.63 miles on the day.   This was a easier day compared to yesterday, and no Advil was consumed in the making of this adventure!

There were multiple water crossings, but we managed to stay dry.   We had fun and once we done headed home to do some grocery shopping and get started on dinner.  Salmon was on sale and we added tortellini, asparagus, red pepper, and

Week 48 Day 6

Hiking day!    WOOHOO we went for a 9 mile hike and it took 3 hours!

AM:
3 hour hike of 9 miles on the Archibold Glover trail in DC and a side trail.

PM:
10 min jog
50 min elliptical machine

Today was a fun day. The temps went up into the high 50’s and low 60’s. We set out with the plan to hike today. I was feeling ambitious, as was my wife. We started with a 6 mile round trip hike planned. Along the way my wife decided we were going to be doing one of the cross trails on the way back. I was feeling pretty good for most of the hike. We were moving fast and the weight of the pack on my back was not weighing me down. As we made our way back I knew I was not looking to do more than the 6 mile trial but the wife was insistent so we did more. I needed to stop and take 4 Advil and have a snack, plus some water. My knees, ankles and back were all sore some time into the second hour. I had slowed down down a lot and hated the steeper steps up and down as they put more pressure on my knees and ankles, but I made it. Once we finally made it back to the truck we were both surprised to see the total distance traveled was 9 miles! Not bad at all.

We also saw some deer along the way,  I took a picture of the one closest to the trail, look carefully and you can see her. She blends in well.

After 1 hour of couch time I was actually ready to go to the gym for an afternoon workout. I did another hour of cardio and feel great for it. My wife made dinner for us, she baked chicken thighs and we had some frozen broccoli, mac and cheese. Not bad.

Tomorrow might be nice too and we could find ourselves back out there hiking some more.

40 min elliptical machine

PM:
54 min weight lifting

Today turned into a beautiful day. The temperature hit 60 degrees! Tomorrow is supposed to be nice too so I expect some hours will be spent hiking some trails. WOOHOO!

Week 48 day 4

Today was a good day.   Nothing special happened, but that did not diminish the fact it was a good day.

AM:
21 min jog 2 miles
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
40 min elliptical stepper

Today really was an overwhelmingly average day.  I did OK eating.  I took a picture of my breakfast which was 3 turkey sausage links with 4 egg whites and 1 whole egg scrambled over pepper, mushrooms, spinach and Parmesan cheese.

I know it does not have the neat appearance of an omelet, but I really don’t care about that.  My food does not need to look good, it just needs to taste good.

Dinner was also a good meal.  I cooked some chicken breasts and baked some sweet potatoes.  A simple and tasty meal. I baked some apples and raisins for dessert.

A good day for sure!

Week 48 Day 3

AM:

4 mile jog in 43 minutes

PM:

52 minutes of weight lifting
4 sets overhead press
5 sets of squats
4 sets of bench press
3 sets of dead lifts

Today was a great day. I went the shooting range with a frind and we rented a Glock 27 and a 26. We each put 50 rounds through them. From there we shot some .38 special and .357 magnum loads. When I got home I saw I had a message. Turns out the company I interviewed with is interested in me and my coworker. The details are being worked out and I hopefully will be employed in a couple weeks. WOOHOO!

Week 48 Day 2

So it is now 2012.  The gym has been full with many folks working on their new year resolutions.  Let’s see how many are still there in March.

AM:

15 min jog
30 min elliptical machine

PM:
50 min elliptical machine

I ate poorly today.  I was out of balance and ate too many calories.  I did have a great dinner though.  I had middle eastern kabobs with rice and Channa (chick peas).   This was the best part of my day!

Week 48 Day 1

Today was a weak day for exercising at the gym.  We have family in town and I am out of my normal routine.  I have been cutting my time short working out to spend more time with them.

AM:

30 min elliptical machine

PM:

45 min weight lifting.

We shared another wonderful dinner together.  I made pasta with a meat sauce and my wife made a salad to complement the meal.

Week 47 Day 7

Happy New Year!

It’s a new year, welcome 2012!  I hit the gym twice today and I went on a 1:20 min hike with family.  I feel good!

Dinner was amazing!  We had steak, brown rice, asparagus and mushrooms.  What a dinner it was.

Week 47 Day 6

New Year’s Eve!

Today was spent with my wife’s side of the family celebrating Hanukkah.  We had an amazing Turkey dinner with all the fixings, and some wonderful birthday cake for dessert.  What a great day!

The pictures aren’t staged still photos like so many are.  These are just action shots of the family having fun together, just as I saw it. The air was filled with laughter and fun.  Also dogs barking and playing together.  Today was the perfect day.

My day started slowly.  I was up really late with the UFC fights, the beer, malt liquor, poor snack choices and a short night of sleep.  I hit the gym and got 45 minutes of cardio in on the elliptical machine then started the day.  I felt mentally slow but not hung over, for that I was grateful.  I drank many glasses of water last night after I got home to help fight off the hangover.

After the family get together I took a nap once I got home.  I needed it.  I am now working my way to ringing in the new year.

Happy New Year everyone!   Do some things for you this year and keep the promises you make to yourself, even when times get tough.

Today was an off diet day. Beer, chocolate, cheese and crackers, yogurt dip, the works. It was the UFC 141 party at my neighbor’s house. A good time!
