Week 50 Day 3

AM:
19:20 2 mile jog
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
25 minutes of push-ups, sit-ups and body weight squats.

Today was an interesting day. I had high hopes for it but the day fizzled away. I baked a chicken last night and had it set too high in the oven on the shelves. The thing splattered everywhere! What a mess. I am not much of a baker. Give me pans and fire and I can cook up some good food. Baking for me is hit or miss. Yesterday the food was a hit but the cooking was a miss. Anyway our oven has a self clean feature. So I got that going and little did I know it takes 3 hours for it to run it’s course. I also learned that our smoke detector works great. I repeatedly set the thing off, even with our exhaust fan running and windows open. I was worried the neighbors were going to call the fire department. Poor Daisy was confused out of her mind. She hid in the computer room behind the desk. She never does that. So with that going on I was not able to leave the house and go to the gym so I did a light workout at home. Not great for me but it was something.

I enjoyed my dinner tonight. I baked the chicken yesterday and today added mashed potatoes with fat free gravy and brussel sprouts. We don’t eat the brussel sprouts much. Nothing amazing about the meal but it tasted good and was a great warm and cozy meal after having windows open for 3 hours in the cold temperatures we had today.

Week 50 Day 2

SO I was motivated today.  I pushed it on the treadmill and did a mile in under 9 minutes.  That made me smile!

I know 8:48 is not really fast, but it is better than 10 minute miles.   After that I got on the elliptical machine and cranked away for 50 minutes.  I kept the sweat going.

My afternoon workout was 50 minutes spent on the elliptical stepper machine.  I broke a seat but nothing like I had this morning.  All in all a good day for working out.

My eating today was off though.  I finished the pesto pasta salad and the stuffed peppers dish so I was heavy on carbs and calories today.  I compensated at dinner by making a salad and having steak and mushrooms over it but the damage was already done.

It looks like the meals over the next few days will need to be carb-lite to swing things back the right way.

Week 50 Day 1

WOW, I started this thing almost a year ago.  Time flies by when you’re having fun.

AM:
22 min jog 2 miles
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
weights
4 sets assisted pull-ups
7 sets incline bench press
6 sets leg press
8 sets ez-bar curls

Food was off the charts today. My nutritional ratios were really off but I had some incredible food. I did a regular breakfast, but for lunch I made a pesto pasta salad with pepper, onion, black olives, mozzarella cheese,  spinach, tomatoes and mushroom.

Then for dinner I made a casserole of “stuffed peppers”  Instead of stuffing peppers I cut them into strips and covered them with the tomato, rice and veggie filling.  I used Morningstar Meal starters crumbles in place of ground beef in the stuffing.

I actually went all day without eating any meat.  I did not plan it that way, it just happened.  There was a time my wife and I would try to do a meatless dinner from time to time.  Those meals usually ended up being a heavier pasta meal with ricotta or cottage cheese added for protein.  The meals today were all heavy ones so tomorrow will be lighter for sure.

Week 49 Day 7

Sunday!

Today was a fun day.  I skipped the gym all day and instead focused on fun activities for my calorie burn.  We decided to go hiking in the 30 degree weather and started on the Glover-Achbold trail in DC then took a side trail to Dunbar Oaks park.  The trail was all new to us.  We were amazed at the beauty and craftsmanship that went into the water features along the babbling brook.

We even saw a hawk hanging out in a tree near Rock Creek!

Quite a fun day.  We got home and watched some TV then baked chicken thighs and asparagus for dinner with a side salad.

Before we knew it it was time for bed….

Week 49 Day 6

AM:

30 min bike

Afternoon fun:
1 hour walking the RV show. 3 steps up, 3 steps down at each RV!

PM:
30 min elliptical machine

Today was a pretty good day. We had fun dreaming of the trips we could take as we toured RV’s that we could afford with some planning, as well as some that cost more than our house. Dreaming is fun!

Week 49 Day 5

Happy Friday!

AM:
15 min dumbbell aerobics
45 min elliptical stepper

PM:
Weights
5 sets assisted pull-ups
5 sets leg press machine
4 sets incline bench press
4 sets cables bench press
3 sets cables flies
4 sets leg extensions

A good day all in all. I ate well today but did consume too many calories.

Breakfast:  478 calories

3 turkey sausage, 4 hard boiled egg whites, 1 instant oatmeal and 1 Greek yogurt

Lunch:      785 calories   ( I did not need the 170 cal of almonds!)

Steak with spinach and a handful of almonds

Dinner:    1204 cal!   ( I really blew it here.  I should have had more salad and less pizza)

Large salad and a ground turkey and veggie pizza on thin wheat crust.

Before the calories were all totalled there were some snacks of low calorie crackers, grapes, cherries, and a 60 calorie jello pudding.   It all added up in the end.  If I had cut 400-500 calories off dinner I would have been golden.  Maybe tomorrow I can be better.

Week 49 Day 4

I am licenced for 90 days! During that time it will be established if I will get my 5 year licence or not.  WooHoo!

Today was an ordinary day.  I did not hear back about the other job opportunity yet that was supposed to start Today or tomorrow.  Oh well.

It was not a bad day today. Weather was warmer than usual and I woke up early and started my whole day 1 hour ahead of schedule. I had a chance to go to the county to check on my licencing. It was supposed to be completed in 45 days, since it was not I was granted a 90 day temporary licence. During that time a final decision will be made I will either be granted a 5 year licence or I will be rejected. But WooHoo I am legal now! Too bad I don’t have anything to match the licence. If the job had started I would have gone shopping this weekend for “the right tools”.

I had some fun today with the cat.  She decided she was going to stalk me.  I ended up jogging around the kitchen taking turns running from her then running after her.  She likes the hunt.

Week 49 Day 2

Two for Tuesday!

60 min on elliptical stepper (50% max worked up to 100% max of machine)

Meals were good today. I baked a chicken and made a stuffing for it filled with onions, mushrooms, spinach, carrots, celery, apple and whole wheat bread. It was amazing! I also steamed some broccoli to go with it.

And now for the two for Tuesday part…. I got a call from the agency to see if I would be willing to work for the same company that wants me to work in Arlington, but now in Sterling VA.  There seems to be some delay in the Arlington job and this will get me some pay checks sooner and it is with the same company so I figure I should do it as long as the money is the same.  I could be working this Friday!  Of course until paperwork is signed…..

Week 49 Day 1

It snowed today!

That was unexpected!

AM:

4 sets cable curls

I fell pretty good about today’s workouts. I feel worked! Dinner tonight was something outside the box. I made cornbread stuffed with Hebrew National 97% fat free hotdogs (Only 45 calories and 6 grams of protein per hotdog) and hot peppers. I also made a nice big gardern salad to go with it.

I added some blue cheese crumbles to my salad and topped it with a honey musturd vinegar mix.   I endjoyed the meal a lot but in the end I shorted myself on protein for the day.   I ended up eating a can of tuna to help balance out my needs for the day.  I am looking forward to tomorrow and seeing what will come with it!
