Week 41 Day 6

What a fun day!  Today I started at the gym with an hour of cardio and then it was back home for a shower and some breakfast.  My Brother-in-law can over as I was cooking and shared some breakfast and then we were off to the gun show!

Remember being a kid a Christmas?  The joy of making lists to give to family of all the things you wanted?  Walking around the gun show was like an adult male’s Toys-R-US.  Men smiling in wide eyed wonder, gauking, pawing, and drooling over all there was to see.  There were some unhappy folks though.  I saw one guy close to tears as he explained to the salesman he could not buy this gun right now becuase he already purchased one and now has to wait 30 days before he can get another one.

I was there checking out 3 different “classes” of pistols.  I was looking at .32 acp pocket pistols, small concealed carry 9mm and “compact” .40 cal pistols.  I found 2 guns in each “class” that I liked.  I liked different ones for different reasons but any one of them on my list would be welcomed into my home.

So why so much chat about the show?  We we walked around for almost 3 hours taking it all in.  That was my afternoon workout.  It might not have been very cardio demanding, but I was pumped up with adreniline looking around.  As a bonus, after dinner with my wife, the three of us did more walking around and shopping at a store.  We were there at least 30 minutes but more like 45 minutes.  More calorie burning!

Week 41 Day 5

Another Work week done!  Who an I kidding, every day is a holiday right now since I am not working.  Still no luck on the job hunt!

AM:
9 min mile
25 min stair stepper
25 min elliptical machine

PM:
Weights!
5 sets Dumbbell bench presses
3 sets squats
3 sets lateral raises
4 sets assisted chin-ups
3 sets leg press machine

Dinner was Chinese food inspired again, I made cashew chicken with broccoli, red pepper and some onion. I used chicken thighs this time.


That looks like the real thing!   It tasted pretty good too.  I used vinegar, honey and squeezed grapefruit juice to give it flavor.  I seasoned it with salt, pepper, garlic powder and some ginger powder.  It was a home run!

Week 41 Day 4

Another great day of working out!

AM:
33 min jog -3 miles
30 min elliptical machine

PM:
50 min elliptical stepper alternating every 5 min between stepping and elliptical motions.

 

I did pretty good eating today. I made healthy choices all day.  I did well shopping too, I skipped the carbs isle with the chips and crackers.  Dinner was a great tasting veggie stir fry, shrimp and a small amount of pasta to go with it.  I feel like the veggies are going to do good things!  And as an added bonus my pee will smell like asparagus!

Some days just feel right and today felt right.

Week 41 Day 3

AM:

10 min 1 mile jog
20 min elliptical machine
10 min 1 mile jog
20 min bike

PM:
5 sets assisted pull-ups
6 sets of leg presses
3 sets of over head presses
4 sets of dead lifts
5 sets of ez-bar curls

Today was a pretty good day. All in all my workouts were good but I felt off some. I think the weather brought me down today. With better weather I think I would have gone out for a bike ride. I need to get out some during the day even if it is just a neighborhood walk.

Week 41 Day 2

AM:

20 min jog
30 min elliptical machine

PM:
alternating every 5 minutes for 50 minutes total
stair stepping then elliptical stepping on the elliptical stepper machine

Today was an OK day. I felt pretty good about my workouts and I got some conformation that my employment situation is being worked on and is going through the contracting process. I am one of two that will be called back. Originally it was going to be 4 of us. My fingers are crossed!

Week 41 Day 1

Is this the week?  Will I make my 100 lbs?

AM:
40 min elliptical machine
10 min jog
4 min walk cool down

PM:
Weights

5 sets bench press
4 sets assisted pull-ups
4 sets assisted dips
4 leg press machine
4 sets dumbbell over head presses
4 sets alternate arm curls

I was still feeling a little bit off from the weekend hiking. My legs and joints felt worked, the cut on my back felt sore and irritated from the shirt rubbing it, and I was tired enough to need a nap this afternoon. I hope to be back and in the zone tomorrow!

I did good with my eating today.  I ended at 2,300 calories.  Dinner was a veggie stir fry with a small amount of steak added.

If I had not eaten almonds earlier in the day I would have had to eat more protein today, most likely a can of tuna.

Week 40 Day 7

Even more hiking!

So today the wife and I decide we are heading back to the the Billy Goat trails and decide we are going to hike the “B” and “C” trails.  So we did.  Both of these were less demanding that the “A” trail.  The amazing thing was we did both trails and walked the tow path to and from the truck covering 5.92 miles in 2 hours and 15 minutes.  That was way  faster than we thought possible.We now set a goal to do the “A” and “B” trails in the same day.

I guess the hiking yesterday was really good for me.  I feel like I might have pulled a muscle in my chest from the reaching and pulling myself up on some of the rocks.  Also the cut on my back feels irritated, I guess from the backpack causing my shirt to rub it while hiking.   Both of my knees were sore like I had jogged 5 miles.  I worked my whole body this weekend without lifting any weights!

You have got to like that!

EDIT:  I forgot to show dinner,  here it is, a nacho platter with ground beef, peach salasa, black beans, shredded low fat cheese and light sour cream, topped with lettuce.

Week 40 Day 6

Fun Family Day!

So today my wife and I had plans to go on a hike with her brother on one of the Billy Goat trails.  We were hoping to maybe do 2 of them if we felt up to it, but alas we did not.  We did the “A” trail which is the ruff one.  Had we done “B” instead we probably could have then done “C” which is easy and flat terrain.  Maybe tomorrow.

I started my morning going to the gym and I weighed myself.  I was 3 pounds heavy from my lightest so sux to be me, another week of not hitting my goal.  I got on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes to get a light workout in knowing we were going to be doing some hiking today.  I am glad I only did 30 minutes.  We hiked and completed it in under 3 hours.  Not bad considering how packed the place was and we did do some side excurions climbing up some rocky areas just to do it.  I did get an upper body workout doing this.  On one tough spot I got a bonus “scrape” on my back from a tree branch.  I knew I hit it with some force but I did not think I had broken the skin.  Surprise!  I did break the skin.  I did not get to see it until hours later at home.  My wife cleaned it with saline solution so It should be fine as is.I took a few pictures from the day but was the photographer and not in any of them.  That is cool with me, I got to capture other’s fun today.

Week 40 Day 5

SO last night I hung out with a friend and watched some fights.  I had 3 beers and some special K cracker crisps.  When I got home I found my wife’s leftovers of Chinese food (tofu and veggies) and finished that off too.  Not so great for the diet.   I also was up until 12:30 am.  Fast forward to this morning and I got up at 6am to take out the trash then went back to bed.  I slept in until 9:15!  When I finally did get up I had the slightest of a headache.  I had a hint of a hangover…from 3 beers!  I have not had any beer in a while (though I do occasionally have some wine) and thought it was funny.  So off to the gym!

AM:

10 minute jog
40 minute elliptical machine

PM:

54 minutes weight lifting
assisted pull-ups,leg presses, shoulder presses, dumbbell dead lifts, and dumbbell flies.

Today was not a record setting day. Some of it was from last night, some of it was from today being so cold out and some from just not being in the zone. Nobody wins all the time.

Week 40 Day 4

Low impact workout today!

AM:

25 min dumbbell aerobics, push-ups, squats, over head presses, dead lifts, curls and sit-ups (5 sets)
30 min elliptical machine
30 min bike

PM:

45 min elliptical machine

 

Since my wife had plans for dinner I decided to cook up some catfish since my wife does not eat it.  It was good.  With it I made baby spinach and shredded carrots.  I seasoned it spicy and added some hot sauce when it hit the plate.

I am good on calories right now and might end the night a little bit higher since I am supposed to watch some fights with my neighbor.  I am bringing some beer that was was going to be shared at a family event that fell through and I know he will appreciate the brew.  I am also bringing some Special K Cracker Crisps as a snack since they are a better choice for me rather than potato chips.
