Week 26 Day 2

Stop the presses!      This just in……  it is just another day.

This morning I made my way to the gym to get some cardio in.  I jogged for 2 miles then got on the elliptical stepper for 25 more minutes.  It was a pretty good workout.  I had the sweat going and I felt like I worked out.

Work was a typical day.  There were times I was sweating on the ladder working and other times of standing ready to go once the next step in the process was completed.  I would call it an active day.

I got home after work and I felt done.  I did not want to go to the gym or exercise at home.  I sat around hoping to feel more energized but it never happened.  Finally at 5:20 I headed out to the gym with the intentions of some light lifting.  I get there and the place is paced so I change my plans and do 30 minutes on the elliptical machine.  Not bad.  This was probably better since I was not feeling like working out.

I get home, shower, make dinner and before I know it I am here in front of the computer braking down my day.   I did great today with eating.  I consumed 1,987 calories.   I had a smaller breakfast and was less hungry all day.  After dinner I was eating lots of fruit so tomorrow morning may be interesting.  The peaches we picked are getting ripe and I ate 2.  I also had 27 cherries and I a

Running into failure!

In today’s adventure my wife and I went out for a little jog.  In the sun and heat.  For a long distance.   I had the crazy idea I wanted to try to do 10 or more miles today.  I did not tell my wife how far i was shooting for but she knew I wanted to do some distance.  We do up to 6 miles in our morning jogs  so it had to be more than that.   We set out in the heat and started at our normal pace but I quickly knew that would be too fast for me so I slowed down some.  My wife does not believe in pacing herself.  She likes to just go her speed.  She was going and then would wait for me to catch up while jogging in place, then go ahead again  and wait for me again.  This worked OK in the beginning but she quickly (in 45 minutes)  wore herself out to near exhaustion.    She needed to sit in the shade, drink water and try to cool herself.  She was so overheated she stopped sweating.  That is a bad sign.  I offered for her to wait for me to jog back and get the car to pick her up but she was not having any of that.  After she stopped seeing stars and was able to stand up we started our way back.   What a trooper she was.  I jogged continuously the whole way back while she walked some and jogged some.  Her walking was slightly slower than my jogging pace and her pace jogging was still faster than me and would catch up after not too long.  We eventually made it back to the truck.  In the end I jogged 7.35 miles and it took us 1 hour and 39 minutes to complete the challenge.  We drank lots of water and each ate an apple on the way to the dinner for some breakfast.  The fact that I paced myself kept me jogging and I/we could have done more distance.

After we got home and showered we were done for the day.  No energy no desire to head back out.  This was too bad since she wanted to go kayaking.  Oh well.

In the evening I headed to the gym to do some upper body lifting.

Week 25 Day 6

Weigh-ins!

That is another couple pounds down since last week!  I am just 17.2 pounds away from my goal of losing 100 pounds!

So at the gym I decided to jog for 30 minutes on the treadmill then get on the elliptical machine for 25 minutes.   I had a full body sweat and that was great!  It has been rough the last few weeks with the weight loss really slowing down.  There are some things I can do better but for the most part I feel I am doing good.

After getting home, fed and showered, my wife took me peach picking and then for a bike ride along the C&O Canal.

It was a cool experience.  The trees were low to the ground and the peaches were everywhere.  We have enough to last a family of five for days,  so the two of us should get three days out of our supply.  Did I mention they were sweet?    While there we stopped by to say hi to the goats.

The goats were funny, they would butt each other out of the way.  and then they would “meeaah” at each other.  From here it was off to the C&O canal.  We rode in the mostly shady area up past Swains Lock heading towards Harper’s ferry.   We rode for 1 hour and 25 minutes.  Even though we were in the shade it was hot.  We went a little over 12 miles.  That was not far and not fast but it was still 92 degrees and humid.  We did good.  We did not take any pictures of the ride which is unusual for us but the heat had us beat.  My wife was being sneaky on the way back.  I noticed she was going faster and faster so I had to ask her “Honey, are you racing me?”  she laughed and said yes but did not want me to know we were racing.  That made me go extra fast!    Look at my butt now baby!    I would sprint ahead standing up while peddaling and get a huge lead and then I would let her catch up, and then she would pass me!  So back to sprinting for me.  I am not going to say who won the race but while I was at the truck waiting for her…

We had Middle eastern for dinner tonight.   Chicken Haleem and chick peas over white rice.  Yes I ate too much.  But it was good and I went more than a week without middle eastern so I did not feel bad.  I also had cherries and fresh pineapple.  All in all the day was great.

Week 25 Day 5

HILLS!

So today is Friday and the wife and I went for a little jog.  We were out for 50 minutes and during the last mile we had to jog up this huge hill.  This is the hill that people walk their bikes up.  My wife was amazing she powered right up it.  I made it and felt better than last time  but it still kicked my ass!  But in a good way.

Work was on the busy side and I was home in the garage weight lifting before I knew it.

overhead presses from the ground
78.8lbs-10,8,8,7

overhead presses from the shoulder
78.8-10,10,10

body weight only deep squats
25,25,25

curls with EZ-Bar and 58.8lbs
8,8,8,8

dumbbell concentration curls (each arm)
35lbs-6,6,6

I got in, showered and working on dinner.  I enjoyed the fish earlier in the week so I picked up some salmon, broccoli and sweat potatoes.  I pealed and sliced the potatoes thin and pan cooked them like thick potato chips.  I sprinkled some salt on them to help contrast the sweet flavor.  Dinner was a hit!

The chips were so good my wife insisted I make more of them!   That is high praise from my better half.  My day ended with me being calorie heavy for the day.  I consumed 2,346 calories.  I am looking forward to seeing the scale tomorrow.  If I did not lose much or if I gained any I will need to eliminate a break snack out of my day or give up one of my 2 fruit servings at lunch (or both) to keep me at the lower calories.  I do not have it in me  or the time in the day to add more workout time into my schedule. let us see what the scale says tomorrow.

Week 25 Day 4

Oh no I feel sick today!  So I get up and struggle to get to the gym.  I am feeling really worn out and exhausted.  I decide I need to do something but I just don’t have the energy.  I took the easy way out and did 50 minutes on the elliptical stepper machine.  I divided up the time between stepping like a stair master and moving like a standard elliptical machine.  I started to get a slight sweat and I was breathing a little bit harder than at rest but it was not a great workout.  I got home, ate some breakfast and realized I was not going to make it through the work day so I had to call in.  I skipped the morning shower since I did not really sweat and climbed back into bed for another 3 hours of sleep.  It was weird feeling so tired.  It was like when I was in school and stayed up all night finishing a term paper.  I was tapped out, done, I even heard the fat lady sing!  But the extra sleep rejuvenated me and I was feeling better.  To keep the resting going I watched some TV on the couch.  eventually it was after 4pm and I got my sorry butt off the couch and went to the gym to lift.  I really wanted nothing more than more couch time but hey I needed to exercise again.I went straight to the assisted pull-up machine and did a warm up set the set it to 55 lbs assisted and was able to do 3 pull-ups!  That is 2 more than I was able to do last time!

Week 25 Day 3

Cardio Day!

SO I was feeling my oats today and decided to do a fast run for time.  I did a mile in 9:05!  I was so close to making it in under 9 minutes, but I did not make it.  Bummer,  but it is my new fasted time.  That I like.  I then did a mile in 11 minutes to continue my cardio blast.  From there I hoped on the elliptical trainer for 40 minutes and kept that sweat going.

Work was good,  I was busy and time flew by.  I was up and down ladders and felt a sweat build during the day, and that was great.

After work I hit the gym again for more cardio.  I did 2 miles in 22 minutes the got on the elliptical machine for another 30 minutes.  Total cardio day!

My eating was even on point.  I consumed 2,088 calories.  The secret was Tilapia for dinner.  I need to get back to fish 2 times a week for dinners.

I cooked the tilapia in a pan and topped it with hot sauce once it was done.  I also cooked some asparagus in the oven and had a carb less dinner, well until I had a bowl of cherries.

Today was great,  I hope tomorrow is too!  YES!

Week 25 Day 2

Today I felt invincible!  Well maybe not invincible,  I felt like Superman!  He had a weakness, kryptonite.  My kryptonite has been all this great summer fruit.

I was feeling good at the gym this morning and jogged 4 miles in 43 minutes.  That was kind of quick for me.  I did not think about it at the time but that is faster than 11 minute miles.  Cool.    I needed a bathroom break otherwise I was going for 5 miles.   My wife and I will be running a 5 Miler later in the year and I am trying to get used to being faster for longer distances.  I did not feel like getting back on the treadmill after the bathroom break so I got on the stair stepper for 15 more minutes.  I felt really good about this AM workout.

Work was pretty good.  We had some UFC style action there today but I missed it.  Once work was over I headed home and took a break before working out.  I was fiending for food so I ate a very early dinner at 4:30 pm.  I enjoyed he last episode of the True Blood box set then hit the garage for some weights.  Here is what I did.

Overhead press from the floor
78.8lbs-6,6,6,6,6

squats
78.8lbs-10
98.8-10
118.8-10
148.8-10
178-5
118.8-10

EZ-Bar curls with 58.8 lbs
8,8,8,8,8

That felt really good! It took me 42 minutes to get through the routine and sweat in the heat.  Dinner was leftovers and later in the evening I had more kryptonite,  I mean fresh fruit of pineapple and cherries.   My calories ended on a high note with 2,384 calories consumed.  If only I could resist the fruit!

Week 25 Day 1

Had I stayed on track for losing 4 pounds a week I would be in my last two weeks.  But alas that is not the case and I will have another 6 or more weeks to make my 100 pound goal.   I know I will get there, eventually.

Today was a warm morning with a nice 3 mile jog, me following my wife through the neighborhoods.  She kicked my butt  the whole way except for the last push on our block back to our house.  I had just enough saved in me to pass her and she was not able to get back the lead.  I think she may have let me win but she insisted that is not the case.

Work today was slow paced and the day felt like it crawled by.  Once I got home I took a break for half an hour then headed to the gym.  Today was a lifting day.  I wanted to push heavier today to see where I am at.  I have lost strength from dropping 80 pounds but I am not feeling weak.  Here is what I did:

Bench press
135-10
185-3
225-1
185-6,5,5
135-12

assisted pull-ups
+85-3
+55-1
+70-3
+85-3
+100-5
+115-6
+130-7

Leg press
180-15
270-15
360-15
450-15

Dumbbell dead lift
60-8
70-8
80-5,5

That did it for me. I was glad to see I can still press 225lbs. I also have a new record for the assisted pull-ups, I can now do one repetition with 55 lbs assistance. My previous best was with 70 lbs assistance. My grip was shot by the time I made it to the dead lifts. The 80 lb dumbbells were not too heavy but I could not keep a good grip and was not feeling good about going heavier like in the past.

My food consumption was good today. I ate 2,168 calories.Dinner was the best meal of the day. I made my own chicken haleem, eggplant with fire roasted tomatoes and spinach.

I was smarter this time,  I did not make rice to go with it.  I did not need the extra carbs.  I have been eating a lot of fruit and have been carb heavy because of it.  All in all today was a good day and I am looking forward to tomorrow to see if I can do better.

Week 24 Day 7

Another hot funky day.  It was not really a bad day, just a funky one.  I hit the gym in the AM (it was too hot for us to jog out) and I walked at 15% incline for 20 minutes then jogged at 2% incline for 15 minutes.  After that I got on a stair stepper and sweated for another 25 minutes.  It was good!  My wife and I enjoyed a lazy morning into early afternoon.  We then headed to Roosevelt Island for a 1 hour hike.  This was my PM workout.  It was not really intense but it was hot and nice to out in nature with my wife.

I was better with my eating today.  I consumed 2,338 calories.  Dinner kicked ass!  We had chicken over a blue cheese and walnut salad.  As a side item we had made mini eggplant Parmesan pieces.

This meal was a winner since I got to enjoy some Italian food without it being a total carbpocolis. It looks like I will be starting my week right with plenty of chicken breasts cooked up and ready to top some salads.  I hope to continue on my losing streak and drop another pound or two this week and make it to 270lbs.  Might happen, might not but I am still trucking along on my mission to lose 100 lbs.
