Y2W24 Day 1

I over slept!  I can’t remember that last time that happened.  I was supposed to get up at 4:20 but got up at 5:17 AM!  The horror of it all.  I still made it to the gym for a quick weight lifting session.

AM:
5 sets leg press
4 sets incline bench press
5 sets standing curls with EZ-Bar

PM:
35 min elliptical machine

I am off to bed to get some rest. I did not sleep well last night and I did not set my alarm right either. I set it for PM instead of AM. I have corrected my mistake and can now enjoy a night of sleep, I hope.

Y2W23 Day 7

Today was an amazing day!   We started with a hike along the Potomac river and explored some new sections of the trail that we never hiked before.  It was great!  It was also hilly, and humid, and hot, and tiring.  We ended up covering over 6 miles and we were out there for 2 hours and 16 minutes.                

It was really fun today.  We found a small bamboo forest.  We like to be goofy when we come across them.  We also survived the water crossings today.  We usually do but every now and then feet do get wet.  The rocks were very slippery from all the humidity.

We got home enjoyed some lunch and it was time for me to relax.  I took a nap and eventually made it to the gym for 30 minutes on the stair machine.  The think kicks my b!  I wore a heart rate monitor to see where I would be at and I worked up to rates in the 140’s.  That is great.  I also weighed myself before and after the workout and I lost 3 pounds of sweat.

 

In the evening we made a great meal together with the help of an ingredient from our wonderful neighbor.  She gave us some Swiss chard.  We cooked it and topped it with some feta cheese.  We also cooked some corn and salmon to complete the meal.  It rocked!

Y2W23 Day 6

AM:

4 sets assisted pull-ups

Family range day! We went shooting at a range today with some family. It was a lot of fun. A new shooter had a chance to try out some different guns in .22, .38, .357 and .45 calibers. He shot then all without any problems. He was comfortable with the .45 acp and shot it well, and that was cool to see. My wife was first to bulls-eye shooting and the rest of us followed suit eventually. We will do another trip some time in the future and hope more family will be able to join us. We went to the NRA range in Fairfax, VA and was impressed with the place. We will go there again for sure and we can bring rifles with us! Cool.

No bonking today!

I am beat! I am ready for bed and it is only8pm. I will be up early thing so I can get to the gym early and start my day right. Tomorrow will be a busy day and a family fun day with my nephew.

Y2W23 Day 4

Today, I bonked.  It has been a while since I had such an off day that I could not go through the motions and get through my planned workout.  Today was that day.  My wife and I were due for our 5+ mile jog today.  Today I was poop moose in the morning.  I was up an extra 12 minutes early and in the bathroom doing my thing.  While in there I had what could be described as an allergy attach.  My nose was congested with plenty of snot dripping.  My breathing was off from having to breath through my mouth only.  I got my act together and was ready to hit the streets.  On the way out I was struggling trying to breathe right for the easy pace we were doing.  Not 3 blocks from the house and I felt like I needed another bathroom break.  This usually happens way later in the runs, usually when we are almost home.  I knew right there I was not going to make 5 miles today.  I mention it to my wonderful wife and she too was bonking.  We first said 3 miles, then a half block later 2 miles, then barely a mile in I new I needed to get home to hit the bathroom.  Today we only did 1.5 miles.  Once done in the bathroom I headed to the gym.

Now for the good part!  I started with a squat machine and did 5 sets of squats, then 4 sets of overhead dumbbell presses, dead lifts, standing curls and an exercise I do not know the name of.  It rocked!

I then worked my day and was heading to the gym for more cardio before I knew it.  I did 20 minutes of the elliptical stepper machine and 10 minutes on the bike.  My knee felt really bad on the bike so I only did 10 minutes.  Tomorrow is going to be the make up run day so I better be feeling better!

I made a lighter dinner tonight which was chicken breast over salad.  I think some of my problem yesterday was the carbs of the Bulgar wheat I cooked and overly enjoyed.  I hope tomorrow will be better.

Y2W23 Day 3

AM:
50 min elliptical trainer

PM:
skipped. tomorrow morning is a run day and I want to see if I will feel fresh.

So today I did some thinking and I believe it is time for me to go back to doing the starting strength workout again. That is the one where you do squats, overhead presses starting from the ground, dead lifts, bench presses, and pull-ups. I am in need of something different again and I did like that one when I was doing it. Though I like my new gym it does get busy when I an there after work which means I need to lift in the mornings there. I am OK with that but I do prefer to do cardio in the mornings. I can mostly do the starting strength workout in my garage and I can incorporate the cargo net into it as well. I will need to see if I can lift after doing a long run day. My knees may not go for it. If they are good tomorrow I will be golden. If not I will need to figure some other way to get it done.

59 min jog 4.9 miles through the neighborhood.

4 sets lat pull downs

Today was a good day all around and a fairly active one at work for me. There was a lot of up and down off the computer room floor and I was walking around a bunch too. It feels good to be active at work.

Plans are coming together for the weekend. Looks like my wife and I will get to share some time with one of my nephews. We don’t spend nearly enough time with the nieces or nephews (on either side of the family!) so this weekend will be nice to be able to do that.

Y2W22 Day 7

We are home!   What a trip!   My wife and I journeyed up to NJ to visit family and enjoy a party at a family member’s new vacation home near the Jersey Shore.  As a bonus the place it only a couple blocks from another family member.  This post is actually going to cover two days worth of stuff since I only used my cell phone to post yesterday and I have more to share.

On the way up we say a great sunrise as we came into Baltimore.

It looked better in person but I had missed the reflection of the sunrise off the hood of the truck so this is a bonus.   On the way we stopped at a rest stop and say this God aweful decorated van.  The thing is so busy and hideous we could not tell if they were for or against smoking.  We could not look away as we passed it.  I had to take a picture because I have no words that could propperly describe it.

Once up at the party the fun began with a beer or two, some whiskey sours, and great food, family and friends.   My one Uncle is also Uncle to UFC fighter Nick Catone.  He stopped by to hang out for a while and took a picture with him and a good friend from my childhood that lives nearby.   

I was teasing my mom with wet willies and she got me back pretty good.  As I was standing near her she got me with a cup of water,  you can see the proof in the picture above.  As the day slipped away and evening settled in a storm tore throught the area.  Some towms lost power but luckily we were OK.  The tent almost took off with a wind gust and I quickly was able to grab it and keep it grounded.  Cars were moved and the tent left to the will of the wind and it managed to stay put.  After the storm passed we say a rainbow in the sky with a second one forming next to it.  

The evening ended for us and we we spent the night at the other family members house since we needed to get up early the next morning.    We slept OK and were up early and enjoying breakfast when my wife drops a bombshell on me, she says we need to go to the beach before we leave.  Not what I wanted to hear.  I am an up early out early kind of guy.  I hate getting stuck in traffic on the way home from places and make it a point to leave early just for that reason.  Well I got punked,  off to the beach it was.  It was nice and we kept it short but I could not get the feeling of needing to get on the road out of my head.  My wife liked walking in the surf and that is what matters
