Y2W25 Day 4

We did the 5+ mile run seconds away from our fast time!  It was a relief.  My wife was really dragging and even had to walk a little bit on the one hill.  She was beat but toughed it out and was rewarded with a good time.  Had she felt better we might have set a record today, or she would have tired me out before we finished and I would have caused us to be slow, who knows.

My afternoon workout was 35 minutes on the elliptical machine.  Nothing special but it was something.

My left ankle was fairly sore today so I wrapped it in an ace bandage and it felt great for hours!  I might need to do that after long runs now.  I wore it half the day at work until it felt uncomfortable.  On the down side it started bothering me after taking the wrap off.  I needed to take it off though because it was getting uncomfortable.  Tomorrow is a weight lifting day.  I can’t wait to see if there will be any records set.

Y2W25 Day 3

A new record!

This morning I lifted in the gym, and I set a record for my leg presses!  I did 860lbs for a 5 count.  That is 50 pounds heavier than my previous best.

This workout rocked! I really feel good about the pushing of the weight. Next time out I am going to try to do 80 on the ez-bar curls.

In the afternoon I did 45 minutes on the elliptical machine. I felt like I needed to since I did not get in any cardio in the morning. Tomorrow is going to be interesting for the run. Will I be fast or slow?

Y2W25 Day 2

Alone for my jog.   My Honey Bunny was feeling really sick and called into work the night before so I knew I was running alone this morning.  It was OK.  I did miss her but it was nice to be jogging my pace the whole way.  I finished in 59:16 which is faster than the last few times out together.  Funny thing about this morning was that I saw no bunnies, no birds no nothing!  Very strange it was (in a Yoda voice).

Work was OK and it looked like I was going to need to work late but it worked out in the end.  I made it to the  gym and pedaled for 37 minutes and watched some TV.  I enjoyed the bike for a change.  I figured it was time for a change off the elliptical machine.

Tomorrow is a new day, let’s see what comes of it.

My afternoon workout was off today. We had a fire drill at work today so I was not able to change into my gym clothing before leaving working. I went home and changed and I took a while to get going to the gym. I eventually made it and got 30 minutes in on the elliptical machine. My poor wife is feeling really sick. She only ate saltines and some ginger ale for dinner. Tomorrow is a run day and she will be skipping it. I hope my knees are up for it tomorrow.

Y2W24 Day 7

Today started rough with late night from the game last night.  I was up until close to midnight.  I woke up at 8 and started my day then.  My wife was up most of the night feeling sick and congested so she slept in late when she finally went back to bed. I made it to the gym and did 35 minutes on the elliptical machine.  That was not a good effort on my part but I was already thinking of a nap.

My day again did not play out as I would have hoped, but that is just the way things go sometimes.

Y2W24 Day 6

Today was a day of many intentions. I needed to get a new battery for my one motorcycle, then get it inspected, I needed to mail something to a friend in NJ, then do some online classes, and so on and so on. I did OK with the list except I could not keep the motorcycle running. It would bog down and stall as soon as I gave it gas. No inspection today… No class today either, time ran out.

My wife had a good day though, she and some co-workers did a girls’ mud run. They had fun!

We also got to go to a National’s game.  It was cool!  the weather was cool and we were out of the rain and mist.  Today was great.  I needed to leave early as I was having some pain in my left knee and was not able to sit through the whole game.  I have pain before like this and it is not worth feeling that bad when you are trying to have a good time.  The hardest part was how concerned family was, especially my wife.  She wanted me to try all these different sitting positions to try to make it feel better.  I love her, but she does not understand it is more than just a sitting thing.  Bad knees run in my family.  My father and uncle both had to have surgery on their knees.  I am doing better than both of them with how long I have felt good.  Days like this are a reminder of what is to come.

Today was a rough day. I was really sore from the squats and other lifting as well as the sprints. I hope to be OK for tomorrow’s run. I needed Advil at work today. I spent some time on my feet working and I feel tight in my back. I hope to be doing better tomorrow. My knees, ankles, back and chest were all sore. WOW I guess I pushed it in my exercising.

Y2W24 Day 2

5.25 mile jog!   Today we were slightly slow and averaged 12 minutes miles.  Not like we were much faster than that but we were in the past by almost 2 minutes.

PM:

Tomorrow will be something new.  we are adding a run day to the week.  It going to be a butchered and bastardized version of High Intensity Interval Training.  I gave my wife a link to see what HIIT training should be, and I gave her another option for us to just jog a short 1 to 1.5 miles at a fast pace.  She has decided she does not want to do either and wants ut to jog with intervals of going faster.  Sounds great in theory but we do that now on our long runs.  The idea of the intervals is that they are supposed to be a set distance or time and you sprint all out for the interval followed buy a rest period or walking period.  Jogging as the rest means we will not be going all out on the running interval part.  It also means as we jog through the neighborhood we will not be doing the same distance OR time of the intervals.  We are going to be missing out on the whole part of what she originally wanted us to do.  I am going to go along for the ride on this one.  We run at different speeds and sprint at different speeds.  the idea of a set interval on a side street would allow us each to go our best and be in sight of each other the whole time.  Now as she jogs faster than me her “resting jog pace will be much faster than mine and will need to wait for me to catch up, and my sprinting pace is faster than hers so depending on when we are actually sprinting I could be in the lead.

The most important thing we need to focus on is actually getting to jogging 10 miles in a session.   She wants to focus on getting faster.  Hey I want to be faster, but to me it is more important to be able to jog the 10 mile distance.   I don’t see this slow/fast jog getting me there faster.  I could be wrong.   What I do know is it is over 12 hours since our run this morning and I need more Advil for the soreness in my knees.  Tomorrow is going to grand…

Dinner was a fun one tonight, chicken breast, asparagus and mac and cheese.  Maybe not the healthiest but it was good!
