Y2W2 Day 5

Happy Friday!

Today being Friday, it is a day where I push myself in the morning workout to cover some distance while jogging.   I jogged 5.27 miles in 53 minutes.  I was trying to do 6 miles in under 60 minutes but I just could not keep the pace.  My first 3 miles were at a pace of 5.5 to 5.7 MPH  Which meant my last 3 miles were going to need to be near 9 minute miles and I just could not do it.  I would jog ay 6.1 mph then crank it up to 6.7 mph  then back down.  I did get darn close to making it but I pushed too hard and gassed out.  What I need to do is start faster so I don’t need to push so hard later.  Had I started at 5.7 to 5.9 mph I would have only needed to make up a little over a minute instead of close to 3 minutes.  No matter what it was a good workout.

My day was mello and though I fought hard not to take a nap I needed one.  My knees and ankles were sore from the jogging.  I had fallen asleep on the couch and when I woke my knees were really sore so I layed down to take the pressure off them.  I also took 3 advil.  I got up about an hour later and felt much better but still took it easy at thegym for my PM workout.  I should have weight lifted this afternoon but I wanted to save the muscle stress until tomorrow afternoon since my wife and I will be going on a hiking adventure.  She wants to do a long multi hour hike so I want my legs to be fresh.  I would have spent 15 or 20 minutes doing leg presses and leg extensions this afternoon and that would have impacted my ability to keep up with my wife tomorrow.

I was lazy tonight and did not feel like cooking.  So I picked up some kabobs.  I picked up one each of chicken, lamb and ground beef kabob.  We split the meat and each had rice and chick peas to go with our kabobs.

Y2W2 Day 4

Never give up!  Never surrender!

OK, so maybe you should give up sometimes…

Well with my personal pity party behind me I was ready to get back into the grind. That is once I crawled out of bed at 9am! I was up until 1am watching TV so I can’t be surprised I slept in.

Today was supposed to be a fast mile morning but since the wine last night me head was a bit fuzzy so I just did the elliptical machine for 60 minutes instead.

I had received a phone call from Home Depot about my desire for a position today. Before I called them back I had received another call from a job recruiter with a possible position 45 minutes from my house for a good wage. My fingers are crossed for this one to work out. If all goes well I should have an interview soon and who knows maybe a job.

With this known I was able to have a much better afternoon workout. I jogged 1 mile then used the elliptical machine for 35 minutes keeping the pace fast and the sweat flowing. Funny how different things can be from one day to the next.

I was better with eating today and dinner rocked I made wraps with the leftovers. I added some BBQ sauce to the chicken and sliced off some corn on the cob and added the spinach mix. It seemed like a totally different meal.

Well now let’s see what tomorrow will be like.

Y2W2 Day 3

“I can’t seem to face up the facts,  I get so nervous, I can’t relax…”

Today was a bad day for eating and exercise.  Also for mental stress!   Businesses come and go, there are booms and busts.  I was in a construction based Information Technology field.  One that has treated me very well over the years.  But like the steel industry, automotive industry, pager industry, horse drawn buggy industry, things may never be the same.    I have less than 10 weeks unemployment coming my way.  It is time to lower my standards, look outside what I want to do and where I want to do it,  it is time to set the bar low and find any job.  It does not need to be one I like or one I plan to stay in,  but I need one.  The sad thing is I will still be competing with hundreds of other applicants doing the same thing.   I am too old to go into the National Guard and learn a new trade on someone else’s dime.  I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars and take months to learn new skills that will still have me competing for entry level jobs that require no training.

Today was an epic day of pigging out. I counted no calories because I knew I was being bad and did not want to know. I even had some wine while making dinner. Tomorrow morning’s workout is going to be scary.

Y2W2 Day 2

Run Fast!

Today was my fast mile day.  I do a fast mile twice a week. I am now pretty consistent with getting a mile in 8:30.  That is still not fast by any means but fast for me and that is what this is all about.

AM:
8:34 min mile
50 min elliptical machine

PM:
11 min mile
50 min elliptical stepper

Oh Boy let me tell you about the wonderful Valentine’s day meal I cook for me and the wife. It was Middle eastern inspired. I wanted to recreate a ground meat kabob that we like. We had ground chicken and I pureed some chick peas and seasoned the heck out of it. I formed patties and cooked it in the pan. I made a yogurt sauce to top of with. Darn it looked good. I wish it tasted good to. Looking at it and knowing what i put into it, I was shocked that it tasted like overcooked hamburgers made from ground chicken. I should have chopped up the patties and made a meat sauce with them and boil some pasta. Tonight was the the first time in a while that I was disappointed in how my dinner turned out. It i snot even like it tasted bad, but the flavors totally did not equal the ingredients I put into it. I don’t remember that happening before.

Sometimes creativity rewards those that venture out into new endeavors,  today was not one of those days…

Y2W2 Day 1

Another Monday rolls around, and it was a cold morning again.  It sure is tough getting up and heading out into it. But I did it and I felt good for doing it.

AM:
21 min jog 2 miles
40 min elliptical machine

PM:
50 minutes weight lifting
5 sets of cable bench press
3 sets of cable chest flies
7 sets of leg presses
5 sets of machine shoulder presses
5 sets of EZ-Bar curls

I felt pretty good today. I was able to tell I had way to many carbs these last few days as I was sluggish on Sunday and I needed a 20 minute nap today after I had taken a 45 minute nap earlier in the day. Tomorrow I will be focusing on more protein and less carbs to get back to feeling my best. I started with dinner tonight, I cooked some chicken and roasted 3 bunches of asparagus. I really enjoyed the meal and I hope to feel more energized in the morning.

Y2W1 Day 7

Today was half day Sunday!

AM:

OFF!

I took the afternoon off today. It was brutally cold today and my back was sore from all the standing around while sneaker shopping with my wife. Since today would have been a lifting day I decided to some time off and plan to hit the weights tomorrow afternoon. I know it is not good for me to skip the gym, but today I was not feeling it and when I lift I want to feel like I get something out of my workout. Tomorrow it is back to the grind.

Y2W1 Day 6

It finally snowed!  It looked like a blizzard… for 3 minutes.  Then it stopped snowing.  Not even a dusting.  The winds picked up and it is going to be an interesting night.  We will see if we lose power.  I bet some trees will come down.  The windchill is making it feel like -5 out.  What a night.

AM:

60 min elliptical stepper alternating each 5 min between stepping or elliptical motion

 

PM:

50 min elliptical machine

Today was mostly a couch and TV day.  I did manage to squeeze a nap in early afternoon.  The cold weather was not any kind of motivator to go out and hike.  Tomorrow may be as bad or worse.  I guess I will be in the gym for both workouts.

Y2W1 Day 5

Happy Friday!

So this morning was my long jog  so I jogged 5 miles on the treadmill.

I was bundled up with a sweat shirt over my tee shirt and long sweat pants over my shorts.  I was a bit slower than I normally would be  but sweated so much more.  I really feel like I worked out.

The day was filled with a nap, watching TV and getting a haircut,  real exciting stuff.  I was happy to get to the gym to do some lifting once it was time.  I bench pressed, leg pressed, dumbbell dead lifted, leg extensioned and curled for my afternoon lifting session.  I feel pretty good about what I did.  My arms were burning by the time I left.  We have some weather coming in and it is bringing rain with a chance of some snow.   The weekend activities will be interesting.

Y2W1 Day 4

Winning isn’t everything, but it sure is better than losing!

Today was a pretty good day. I got my gym time in and I made it to the range to try out my Kel-tec P32. It surprized me with the snappy kick. It is really light and has a small recoil spring so I should not be surprized. I like it and it is a keeper, but not one I will shoot a lot of rounds through at the range as it does get uncomfortable after a while.

Today was a great day for eating but a poor day for nutrition. Dinner was not totally evil but it was not my normal better balanced meals either. I made a veggie chili and added the left over ground turkey taco meat and cooked some Hebrew National reduced fat beef hotdogs. I had 3 with buns and that was a lot of carbs for one meal plus I was carb heavy for the day already. Tomorrow I will suffer! Here is what my “dinner of gas production” or “dinner of diet destruction” looked like.

Y2W1 Day 3

What, there was no snow this morning!  I feel robbed!  Robbed I say!  I demand satisfaction!

AM:
30 min jog
30 min elliptical machine

PM:
56 min weight lifting

5 sets assisted pull-ups
4 sets over head presses
8 sets leg presses
4 sets of cable bench press
3 sets of cable flies
5 sets of EZ-Bar curls

Today was a day worth noting, I wore out the cat playing with her today. By the time my wife got home and had dinner the cat curled up for the night on her spot in the living room. Too funny, that has never happened before. Usually my wife plays with her for 10 or 20 minutes and the cat was already too tire to play. WOW!

Dinner tonight was Tacos. I can’t remember the last time I made tacos. I used ground turkey, lettuce, tomato, peach salsa, shredded cheese and some hot sauce.

Today was a good day.  I feel good, I had 2 great workouts, and I got to share my evening with my two girls.  Life is good!
