I ate like a pig today and totaled a little over 3,000 calories. Not good. I also took a 2.5 hour “nap” this afternoon which my body must have really needed. It is getting close to bed time and I am feeling sleepy.

I still don’t know if I have a job come Monday. Things look good but there is some lack of actions causing stress with myself and co-workers. No matter what I will be employed tomorrow.

I ate well today. I consumed 2,313 calories. That is good and I had 2 good cardio workouts today. I also walked a lot at work and was up and down stairs today. I feel good about that. Have a great night!

Today was a more stress day. All day waiting to here about if I have a job this Monday or not. I finnally got word later in the evening that there is paperwork for me to sign and I will be kept on for a year. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Asfor foods today, I ate heavy. I consumed 2,511 calories. I was hungry all day and snacked on stuff. I hope tomorrow will be better. Dinner tonight was good. I had Salmon with Kale.

Work threw me a curve ball today.  I had an exit interview with my (and my co-workers) positions being terminated on Friday.  We were originally told those of us left did not need to worry, but here it is days away from the contract expiring and there is no news.Looks like Monday I will be joining the ranks of the unemployed.  We were concerned and went to our Boss’s Boss and talked with him.  He told us IF the contract gets signed we will have a 2 month extension, not a year as we were thinking. WOW.  This is an interesting twist.  This will impact my thoughts and emotions.  I hope I can harness the energy into a postive way like lifting more or running faster when jogging.  That way at least something good can come of this.

Week 34 Day 1

“The Morning After”

So how did I feel after an exhausting weekend and 5 hours of sleep last night?   Not horrible.  We went out and did a neighborhood jog for 3 miles.  No timing, just a nice easy pace.  Both of us were suffering from sore leg muscles and that feel ing stayed with me all day.

Work was demanding today.  I had the pleasure of drilling through a thick brick wall with a 50 pound drill and bit.  It was quite the arm and upper body workout.  It was enough that we took turns drilling.

My PM workout was a dumbbell weight lifting routine.  I did dumbbell bench presses,  DB incline presses, DB flies, incline DB flies, assisted pull-ups, seated DB shoulder presses, and standing over head presses with DB starting from the floor.  I this routine in 60 minutes which is shorter than usual.  I skipped DB overhead triceps today and I did one or two sets less than ususal.  The drilling had worked me so I was not trying to over do it.

We had the most amazing dinner tonight!  Steak with portobello mushrooms (in honor of the knuckleheads that ate the poisonous mushrooms from their yard and almost died!) over a veggie stirfry.  We had asparagus, carrots, white onion, elephant garlic, green and red peppers and red cabbage.  What a meal.

Afterwards I had a bowl of grapes as desert.  I consumed 2,396 calories for the day.  I hope to tighten up my meals again and get back to 2,200.  The biggest problem I have is not tracking what I eat right after eating it.  I have been catching up at the end of the day after eating my food for the day.  I will work on changing this up to keep me on track better.  I used to be able to do that at work when I had regular computer access, right now I don’t.

Week 33 Day 7

THE NAVY 5 Miler!

We did it!  we ran the Navy 5 Mile race.

We were concerned about parking, so we parked a little over a mile away and walked to and from the event starting line.  We were both pleasantly surprised with out times.  My speedy Bunny averaged 9:38 per mile for the five miles!  I averaged 10:40 per mile for the five miles.  Both of us were faster than we though we would be.  Both of us were sure we would have been faster if not for the almost mile long uphill along the one side of Arlington National Cemetery.  At the end we each received a partisipant’s coin marking the event.

Afer going home, showering and eating some food we went to DC to see the Solar Decatalon on the Mall.There were some amazing concepts there and we fell in love with three different small homes.   Any one of them would be a great place to call home.  One even had a garage.

This team was from New Zealand and incorporated a lot of hom einto the building.  They featured the different plants from their country and had a very pleasing to the eye design inside.  It did not have a fully walled off bedroom though so it would not offer privacy if you have guests stay the night.

These folks were from the USA (Virginia in believe) and were very cleaver with their designed space.  The porch had a huge window that would retract down to make it an open outdoor porch or with it closed and a window on the interior wall open, this space would be part of the indoor living space year round.  It also had a great sliding door that was also a book shelf seperating the bedroom from the living room.  This home had clearly defined rooms with walls and lacked the open space feel the New Zealand home had.  Both have their advantages.  We could be happy with either one.  There were a few others we liked as well but they seems to have more things in them we did not care for design-wise.

I was physically beat and convinced my wife to leave before seeing all the homes. We still needed to go grocery shopping, eat dinner and get to bed.  Both of us will be sleeping good tonight as we were falling asleep watching TV at 7:30 PM!  Tomorrow is a run day for us but w

Week 33 Day 6

Nothing gained, nothing lost!

I am actually quite surprised I did not gain any weight this weigh-in.  The last two day I have been really bad with eating.   I mean like Zombie eating human flesh insatiable hungry (thank you Warehouse 13).   My last two days I consumed 2,8,00 and 3,056 calories!  I think I was extra hungry in part to doing an extra day of long distance running and stress related to my employment position.  Pasta was my drug of choice, and I overdosed!  I had pasta for dinner on Thursday, some pasta with my salad for lunch on Friday and about half a pound of pasta with a jar of sauce Friday afternoon after work  before I went to the gym (that was not my dinner but an afternoon snack!).  WOW!

 

So today I did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine.  I needed to do more but I needed to make it to the bank as well as get to a place to pick up our race packets for the Navy 5 miler race for tomorrow.  All this and be ready for a wedding at two in Springfield!

Hey look we clean up nice!  The Wedding was great and the reception afterwards was good too!  They used Famous Dave’s BBQ to cater the event.  At first I thought that might be a bad choice since it is messy, but damn the food is tasty!  We all made it out of there without wearing sauce so all was good.   Unfortunately the event ran late into the evening so I did not have a PM workout.  That might be OK since tomorrow is race day, but I would have liked to have gotten in 30 minutes on the bike  as some light cardio.  Oh well.

As you can guess I had a high calorie day today.  I consumed 2,776 calories if I remembered everything from today.  I hope tomorrow will be a nice rain free morning so I can get my run on without worrying about getting sick later.  I am hoping for a run time of under an hour.  I am capable of averaging 12 minute miles for five miles, I just need to not get slowed down too much in the beginning of the run and hope the hills don’t kill my time tomorrow.  Have a great night!

Week 33 Day 4

This weekend my wife and I will be running the Navy 5 Miler.  We wanted to do a group run for time and picked the Navy run as a good middle ground between a 5K and 10K distance.We have been running regularly and have done distances between 3 and  6 miles weekly to get ready.  This week we did 5 miles on two different days.  We are ready!

As you can see I did sweat a little bit.  Since the camera was out we took two more pictures to show where I am at now with 93 pounds lost.

I am a lot better off today than I was 33 weeks ago!  I still got plenty of work to do and areas to improve but I am well on my way in this journey.

My PM workout was weights in the gym.  I did 62 minutes.  I should have done more but I wanted to take it a bit easy with the run a few days away.    Tomorrow is another day,  here’s hoping for great things.
